Pictograms and Tally Charts (P6-L2) I work in specialist school for pupils with ASD. The class I currently have are working at levels P6 up to 2C. This lesson is based on Pictograms and Tally Charts, and is a lesson that I repeated on a regular basis to ensure that progression and understanding was taking place. This lesson would work as a one off lesson, or could be laminated and tweaked to repeat over a series of lessons (as I did). Resources include: PowerPoint - Includes information and practical tasks relating to Pictograms and Tally Charts HA/MA/LA Tasks - Differentiated tasks to complete as part of the lesson during the PowerPoint, related to creating a Pictogram of their own.

Basic Tally Chart Activity

Basic Tally Chart Activity This worksheet is focused on tally charts, it allows pupils to see a visual representation that they can input on the tally chart. It can be used as a single use worksheet, or can be laminated to be used again - the latter is what I have done with this resource myself. I’m currently a teacher in a special needs school for children with ASD. The class I currently have range from P4 - 2C. These are a lifesaver. I use them daily with my pupils as part of their workboxes following the TEACCH system. The pupils respond well to the worksheet, and with daily repetition I am seeing great progress in Maths.

I used this for revision for my class. The items sold in the shop are a bit silly/childish because that’s what my class likes but they could quickly and easily be changed with find and replace if you don’t like them.

Data Collection: A beginner's activity to collecting data and handling it

Collecting data: Building the skills to collect data and then handling it. First you need to be able to match items, then record what is selected using a picture graph and lastly reading the data. This resource has data collection using colours, favourite biscuits and music. It was designed for using with students with special needs and would be useful with young students. The symbol boards can be used to carry out a survey and then there is a grid and cards to record the answers.
