Advent Assembly - Preparing for Christmas

(0)
This is a plan for an assembly on Advent, with a focus on preparing for Christmas. There is an optional simple PowerPoint on Advent traditions included. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves using an anecdote about a December when you prepared for Christmas in all the wrong ways. You can use the example in the plan or use an anecdote from your own childhood. The children are then encouraged to think about how they can prepare for Christmas by thinking about others. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. (The PowerPoint and the plan (pdf) are in the zip file.)

The Good Samaritan Assembly/ Collective Worship!

(0)
This engaging and original assembly/ collective worship session aims to provide children with an understanding of the parable of The Good Samaritan, with a key focus on its moral meanings and how they can be applied in modern life. The colourful and comprehensive presentation guides children through: -Considering the meaning of the terms ‘parable’ and ‘Samaritan’; -Understanding the context of Samaritans and Jews in biblical times; -Reading the story (using the script provided - this works best when children read/ play the different roles); -Demonstrating an understanding of the parable by answering questions about the plot events; -Reflecting on the deeper meanings of the parable; -Noting how ‘people walking by’ still exists in the modern day (perfectly shown using a video - hyperlinked); -Considering how they can apply the key message to their own lives; -Participating in song and prayer. This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. If everything is kept in, it takes around 30 minutes to deliver, but you may choose to edit or amend some elements of the session. All links to videos/ hymns are included in the PowerPoint as hyperlinks. No further resources are required - everything that you need to present the session is included!

Philosophy Boxes - MASTER BUNDLE (19 Full Lessons + Template: CREATE YOUR OWN!) [P4C, Philosophy, Critical Thinking] KS1-3

20 Resources
This bundle is for a collection of ‘Philosophy Boxes’ lessons/sessions. Each session comprises a P4C lesson/session that can be used 2-3 times with the same group. This download includes 19 out of the 20 sessions, the 20th file is the template (worth £9.99) that allows you to create your own ‘Philosophy Boxes’ sessions. The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to P4C designed for students in KS1, 2 & 3: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind. The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level. The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of ‘mystery boxes’, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats]. The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from. The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes. The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity. The download includes a PowerPoint Show; if you would like an editable PPT presentation so that you can make your own ‘Philosophy Boxes’ presentation you will need to download the template here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-the-philosophy-boxes-method-template-for-creating-your-own-philosophy-boxes-lessons-p4c-p4k-11463227 A complete selection of Philosophy Boxes lessons can be found here: https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?&q=philosophy+boxes+godwin86 Other bundles of ‘Philosophy Boxes’ lessons exist, depending on your need. .
