This is a Power-Point with over 100 slides on Shakespeare's The Tempest. There are resources and activities included within this. It is aimed at low ability KS3 and was made for special needs groups (Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD, predominantly) but easily differentiated. Whilst a text can be read alongside, this unit focuses on very short extracts to help students understand character and theme - whilst making it as accessible as possible to those who struggle. It is recommended students watch the play initially to help develop their visual understanding and then re-watch clips to support what they read. The activities are included and worksheets can be printed as individual slides. This can easily be adapted to challenge students further - and some suggestions are made in the notes section.

Colourful semantics to go with 23 CVC words. I split these into 4 words per week (one week, has 3 words) and we work on spelling these words and using them in sentences, but this can be easily adapted if you wanted to use more words per week. I have included colourful semantics boards, from the basic Who, What doing, What, to more complex Who, What doing, What, Where, Why. I have laminated these for my class and differentiate so some of the students complete only the 3 word sentences and some complete the 4 or 5 word sentences, but using the same pictures. I have included 3 pictures of examples of students using the boards and words (I hav blanked out student names)

Originally made for KS3 SEN class for students of pre key stage level (p scale). Sentences to go with each page of the book to describe what is happening. Images from the book or photocopies can be used to sequence parts of the story and describe what the character’s are doing. I have also included a template that can be used alongside images from the book to create a sentence, with the colours there as a guide for lower level students, or students new to colourful semantics. I have included a page of ‘little words’ or white words that can be cut up and slotted into the colourful semantics to create full sentences for students of a higher level. There are also communicate in print supports for adjectives that can be used for higher levels as well. Eg: The brave mouse climbed on the dragon’s tail.

I created this resource as I was struggling to find a word bank suitable for secondary school students, so this is suited for AQA Language Paper 1, Section B tasks, but could also be used across other phases and exam boards. Prints A3 size so that all words are visible, the categories are divided into colour-coded sections for sensory language, setting, colour and characterisation. A set of 3 worksheets and posters to support writing and description tasks. Aimed to support pupils with SEN and lower ability pupils.

There are a variety of different sentence structures to help develop children’s writing. It starts with building a sentence using the colour and then going on to writing the sentence with the ‘little words’ added in. These can be used to help Key Stage 2 use colourful semantics in a way that will help develop their writing and create more detailed sentences independently. They could be used with a picture stimulus or the child’s own ideas.

This is a multi sensory, plain English version of The Little Mermaid. The story is based on the Ladybird Favourite tales version. It has been rewritten in simple language. The equipment is detailed so you can make a shopping list! The multi sensory elements are described throughout the story, but feel free to adapt to suit your needs, or if you have a better idea! I will be using the resource with secondary age, SEN (SLD / MLD/ complex needs) students for Literacy lessons. The ‘chapters’ are quite short, so each chapter can be used as a sensory story. It reminds pupils on how to use speech marks and other punctuation devices in the context of direct speech. This booklet contains two whole lessons plus fast finishers. I structured this booklet so that pupils will have visual cues in the form of icons to help them structure their story: who, where, when, problem, solution and ending. This mini icons help to signal to pupils what is required of them. The booklet contains many many colourful images to generate ideas for writing and engage pupils. There are also two stories in there to use as a starting point, with images and comprehension questions. This is suitable for KS2 and SEN and low ability KS3.

This resource comprises of two files. The first is a highly visual workbook designed to be used with the film of James and the Giant peach. There are a range of different activities but most are literacy based questions that involving comprehension of what has happened in the film up to that point. It can be split over a few lessons if needed. The powerpoint presentation is an 83 slide comprehensive look at the novel of James and the Giant Peach. it looks at the Author, Character, novel cover, different settings, plot, writing conventions, and theme. All the main characters and settings are covered over a few slides each and you can use the proforma that is included in this to help students to answer questions about the different settings throughout the book. There is also a proforma for the character slides should you choose to use it, it also includes aspects of the writing conventions. This is a great complement to a study of the novel and film that will allow you to differentiate the task for a variety of levels of ability.

Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a fantastic fantasy book that appeals to young readers. Part of a trilogy this first book takes the readers on a journey to a mythical land of dragons, magic, love and adventure. This pack contains a large powerpoint that goes through every main character and setting in the book, it looks at the makeup of the story including the plot, theme and writing conventions. Approximately 100+ slides. It is a detailed resource that can be split up and used daily over the school term as students are working through the novel. Also attached are a couple of worksheet activities that I did with my class. These are a book covers task, character sheet and settings sheet.
