Bubble Writing - Handwriting Scaffold UKS2

(10)
Bubble writing - cursive handwriting scaffold Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. There has been a huge impact within my class in a very short space of time and I hope you will see similar benefits within your own setting. Included is a PowerPoint presentation including words from the Year 5/6 spelling list that can be printed as a handwriting pack for children to work through. Blank slides enable you to add words to suit your needs and finally 2 different sized PDF scaffolds that children can use to write on (If photocopied the bubbles will disappear to leave the writing that has been completed.)

Spag Game Year 6 SATs

(0)
SPAG Master is a game I use with Year 6 in the last few weeks before the SATs. You know how it feels - when you’ve done past paper after past paper and you still need to work on retrieval but you need some ENERGY! This is a quiz which involves partner work, team names and unlimited points and my children LOVE it. Covering all of the Punctuation and Grammar question areas from Paper 1 in a quiz format. Children work in pairs for this quiz. For each section (PPT slide) each child will be given 2 to 3 minutes (your discretion) to answer the questions independently on their own piece of paper. The next 2 minutes will be sharing and discussing answers with their partner. Before sharing, they will need to decide upon a final answer as a team. This is great for peer work, talking through HOW they came to their answer. Points are decided by the teacher: correct answers; superb explanations; good behaviour; staying focused I also deduct points to maintain behaviour management: shouting out, arguing etc. I find that the children learn very quickly that it’s all a bit of fun in the midst of all their revision and behave well beyond the first couple of deductions! Having ultimate power over the points also ensures that you can award points to children with low self esteem who need the boost. There are over 20 colourful question slides, each containing at least 4 SPAG questions. This quiz can easily be broken down into sections, over several sessions . I show this as a PPT presentation and everyone looks at the whiteboard but I have also included a PDF in case you need to print out questions. Another PPT and PDF contains the answers which I use as a class so I can see what everyone is getting out of it, what my areas of need are, giving out points and also to keep up the energy. However, this could also be used for self marking. I really hope you and your class enjoy this resource as much as we do!

Year 6 SATS reading impressions questions PPT

Have you been struggling teaching your Year 6 class how to answer impressions questions in reading comprehension tasks? Do you want some support in giving a clear method with examples and practice questions? This PowerPoint might just be the answer. This Year 6 reading SATS preparation lesson focuses on impressions questions and supports the children to give answers that give two very different impressions of a person, place, object or setting. This resource includes: Steps to success Examples of modelled answers Practice questions for Year 6 pupils to have a go with Answers given throughout The method focuses around giving two very distinctive impressions. The analogy of a weighing scale is used to show that the two impressions should be different - kind and thoughtful, for example, would be too similar. Please note that this PowerPoint is flattened (cannot be edited).

Contains Talk Like a… Reader Writer Mathematician Musician Good Citizen Theologist Artist Scientist Designer Geographer Historian The sentence stems on the cards support discussions and writing! There are 2-3 different levels depending on subject to allow for progression. We had these cards professionally printed at a local printers, double sided with a matt laminate to avoid any reflection of light and I would highly recommend this! If you need to keep costs lower, I would suggest buying some matt laminating pouches. The cards we use across the curriculum. Their use should be modelled and encouraged by staff. Encouarge children to challenge themselves to use a variation of stems to avoid repeating the same starters.

Year 6 SATs revision - Grammar treasure hunt

(1)
This is a SPG treasure hunt I have written to help my Year 6 children with their Grammar revision. The treasure hunt contains 50 SATs style questions, which I have written myself, leaning towards some of the more challenging questions on the paper. I laminated each of the question cards, sticking them around the school. The children worked in mixed ability pairs to hunt down the questions and answer them together. They absolutely loved this light-hearted approach to SATs revision and I hope your children find it useful too.

Practise SATS Tests (Changes) 9-12 years

(2)
Between the ages of 9 and 12, children have to complete Standardised.Assessment.Tests (Sats). To help them practise for these tests, we have produced a new series of comprehension booklets. The Standards and Testing Agency states that the child has 1 hour to complete the test, answering the questions in the answer booklet. Read one text and answer the questions about that text, before moving onto the next text. There are three texts and three sets of questions in each booklet. The tests in this booklet are based on the KS2 Reading Assessment sample papers. It is important to try and complete them in an hour, but it is your choice. The more tests you practise the quicker you will get. 39 pages

Creative Writing Scheme of Work GCSE

7 Resources
Full scheme of work covering all aspects of creative writing. Ideal in preparing students for GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section B. Designed with the very latest developments in the 9-1 specification in mind, this is best suited to the AQA syllabus but would be equally useful for both KS3 prep and other exam boards. Please see individual resources for more details. The lessons all work well as stand-alone, but if being used in sequence, the scheme runs as follows: Lesson 1 - Vocabulary Lesson 2 - Sensory Description Lesson 3 - Devices and Techniques Lesson 4 - Narrative and Descriptive Openings Lesson 5 - Sentence Variation Lesson 6 - Characterisation Lesson 7 - Narrative Structure Each lesson takes the form of a ‘masterclass’; each masterclass is packed with a range of activities that will enable your students to truly embed and master each aspect of creative writing. Each ‘lesson’ is probably going to take in excess of 2 hours to get through - you may wish to ‘pick and choose’ activities, or take your time with each skill area and cover them in depth.
