Each session comprises a P4C lesson/session that can be used 2-3 times with the same group.
This download includes 19 out of the 20 sessions, the 20th file is the template (worth £9.99) that allows you to create your own ‘Philosophy Boxes’ sessions.
The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to P4C designed for students in KS1, 2 & 3: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind.
The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level.
The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of ‘mystery boxes’, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats].
The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from.
The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes.
The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity.

This class assembly pack is ideal for KS2 students studying The Vikings. It will definitely enthuse learners and any audience through its use of story, theatre and pop culture references to impart historical information about Viking warfare and weaponry, gods and goddesses and about their invasion and settlement of the British Isles.

Baghdad Early Islamic Civilization Assembly
Cast size: 30 - easily adaptable up or down as, besides the Narrator, the speaking parts are just numbered 1 - 29.
Duration: Around 15 minutes reading time (not including music suggestions)
This assembly is intended as a celebration of learning and toleration. And it is to this end that the focus is on the work of the individual scholars, working in unison in Baghdad, during this Golden Age.
Included is a brief comparison of ‘East and West’– comparing London and Baghdad.

Narrator: Good morning and welcome to our assembly on
Whole cast: (Together) Baghdad and Early Islamic Civilisation
(Child 1, 2 and 3 stand up with 3 banners: Golden Age, Learning and Tolerance)
Narrator: Aha! And when was this Golden Age?
Child 1: It was between the seventh and thirteenth centuries. That is, around six to twelve hundred A.D.
Narrator: That’s a long time (looking towards Child 2 and 3) to be learned and tolerant!
Child 4: Oh. You’d be surprised what mankind is capable of when the conditions are right!
Narrator: (Looking at cast) Well. I think we need to find out what these ‘conditions’ were, don’t you?
(Narrator ushers Child 2 and 3 with banners Learning and Tolerance to front of ‘stage’)
After all, aren’t Learning
(Child 2 waves banner)
And Tolerance
Child 3 waves banner)
Two of the most important ingredients to a happy and stable society?
Child 4: And a happy and stable school!
Child 5: Yes, we (gesturing to cast) have all learned a huge amount about the importance of Learning and Tolerance
Child 6: Just by doing this assembly!
Narrator: How so?
Child 7: Well, we’ve learned all about this amazing civilisation that we knew nothing about before
Child 8: And we’ve learned how it actually was, and is, possible to work together for the greater good.
A class assembly on the story of democracy, as our current topic is Ancient Greece and we've just had Parliament week! Once the children heard that the script might involve time travel they were very keen for characters from Back to the Future to be incorporated, so here we are!
The assembly was very successful and it was very fun to perform. There are 26 speaking parts (some quite long, some a few lines, some quite brief) plus a variable number of readers for a welcome speach and prayer. The final length of the performance was 20 minutes.
It’s always nice to give your students something Christmassy to work towards as it gets closer. I’ve updated this resource due to it’s popularity. This 10 page booklet can be printed in colour or black and white. Students can work through the different activities suggested in one go or once a week. I’ve used these resources with different ages but it would work best for lower secondary or primary school. The resources tell the Christmas story, look into traditions today and explore how Christmas was celebrated in the Tudor and Medieval period. The additional Powerpoint may also be used for other activities. Comments are appreciated. Images acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for reuse.

Haven’t you heard? There’s a ghost on the loose! Goes by the name of Raewald, King of East Anglia. Died about 625 AD but forgot to take his Kwells (holds up packet of sea sickness tablets) before being buried with his ship.
Ghosthunter 2:
Yes, it’s all very fine having all this gold and silver …but not much good to you if you’re prone to a bit of the ol’ sea sickness.
Ghosthunter 3:
We’re here to give him his tablets so he can at last …Rest In Peace.
Narrator:
Could I suggest you’d stand a better chance of catching this sea-sick ghost if you were a little quieter (beckoning them all off stage). Wait here!

This script for a whole school assembly takes the theme of ‘This Is Your Life’ and uses the character of Britannia (yes, her from the 50p!) to tell the story of the history or Britain from pre-historic celts to the modern day… and all in about 15 minutes.
This is my second assembly script for the Vikings topic. I performed it with a Year 3 class. Script and lyrics are my own, although half a poem is taken from Horrible Histories. You can use the YouTube links to listen to the songs.
