Positive Male Role Models - Addressing Harmful Influences and Gender Stereotypes. In this lesson, students will explore the positive qualities and characteristics to consider when choosing a role model to emulate or be influenced by. Created to counter the harmful views propagated by online influencers such as Andrew Tate, this lesson empowers children to become critical consumers of information, rather than accepting online hearsay as fact. Intended as a gentle precursor to secondary school topics of misogyny and toxic masculinity, this lesson reminds students of their previous learning on gender stereotypes and applies this knowledge to new scenarios related to harmful gender stereotypes. While this lesson does not explicitly name Andrew Tate, we will apply our critical thinking skills to an age-appropriate selection of Tate’s quotes without crediting him as the influencer (please note that we have been careful to select examples that include no sexual references or violence). This lesson is suitable for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly LKS3 students in Year 7. Who are EC Resources? This fun and original assembly aids children in understanding the value of being creative in all of their endeavours, through: Understanding what creativity is, and recognising why it is such an important skill; Understanding that creativity is a trait within everyone (including themselves) that should be encouraged and harnessed; Observing some amazing examples of what creativity can result in; Learning strategies to demonstrate creativity in their own lives. This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. The session also includes a fun role-play task to demonstrate how everyone can be creative and the internet link to a beautiful, thought-provoking video demonstrating the power of creativity. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to understand how they can be creative in different areas of their own lives. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Caffeine and Energy Drinks Lesson This 1-hour, fully resourced PSHE lesson is suitable for upper KS2 or lower KS3. It investigates the risks associated with consuming caffeinated energy drinks as well as looking at the harmful effects of consuming too many ‘free sugars’. The students will begin the lesson by reflecting on the events that swept the nation when the Prime product line was first released. We will discuss the reasons why some schools felt the need to ban the drink before delving into the health risks associated with excessive caffeine consumption. The students will look at the caffeine and sugar content of a variety of drinks, reflecting on their safety, suitability for young people, as well as the moral question of whether it is right to market these products to kids and young people. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well-differentiated, and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no-prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

A set of 15 fully prepared, highly detailed PowerPoint based lessons that include: the pages from the actual story, a range of activities per lesson, useful printable resources. The first two lessons are available to download free, to get a sense of the lesson structure (look in my shop). The book, Ocean Meets Sky, is beautiful. I have used these PP lessons with my Year 3 class and had incredible work created by them. Their level of thinking and inferencial work has blown me away, along with their writing. The work actually lasted me an entire term to get through - 6 weeks. There is more than a single lesson’s worth of work within each PowerPoint. I’ve poured my heart and soul into making these PowerPoints beautiful to see, easy to use, resource and understand. The lessons are definitely suitable for Lower KS2, and can work wonderfully with minimal adaptation for Upper KS2 also (my Y6 colleague confirmed this). **You do not need to buy the book in order to use these lessons **- the pages are within. But I would recommend buying ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ - the children LOVED reading this book (by the Fan Brothers) and seeing the illustrations in person. This beautiful and poignant story has stunning illustrations throughout (matched in the PowerPoints) and explores themes of family, memory and loss. The unit begins by introducing the authors to the children and highlighting the power of bookmaking/storytelling. Children find a mysterious box in the classroom labelled Grandpa’s Stuff. Inside they will find clues to who Grandpa was and his relationship with the main character, Finn. Finn misses his Grandfather after he has passed away and longs to travel to the fantastical worlds that his Grandpa would tell him about in his stories. Children are given a variety of meaningful writing opportunities throughout the sequence and gradually build up the skills to write an extended fantasy story of their own. Main outcomes: Setting and character descriptions, labels, diary entry, postcard, captain’s log, instructions, dialogue, extended fantasy narrative. The resources are based on the planning sequences for the same book by the Literary Curriculum. I’d recommend taking a look at their site for the planning document that aligns with this (and see the other brilliant stories they’ve created plans for).

An achievement and aspiration assembly with a focus on achievement. It lasts about 15-20 minutes if clips are watched and questions asked too. The assembly emphasises the value of hard work in achieving your aims, explains why teachers always set high targets and gives inspirational examples of famous and non-famous success stories from people who have worked hard. A full complement of work for Y5/6 classes linked to Reading and Writing based on Armin Greder’s ‘The Island’. It covers themes such as bullying, racism, inclusion/exclusion, xenophobia and refugees.This package includes a 105 slide PPT presentation with 2 weeks of lessons/work including planning and worksheets as well as 2 optional extra lessons at the end of the PPT! This resource is perfect for enabling students to build both their persuasive writing and their speaking and listening skills. Based upon the popular BBC series 'Dragons' Den', students have the opportunity to research, design, pitch, and evaluate arguments for their own inventions, whilst simultaneously analysing persuasive pitches, revising persuasive techniques, structuring arguments and articulating convincingly. Included is a 16 page booklet (I would say at least 4-5 hour lessons of tasks) that lead students to: - Introduce themselves and their interests; - Watch persuasive pitches (links included) and identify persuasive devices; - Analyse why persuasive devices are effective; - Structure an analysis appropriately; - Brainstorm ideas for an invention using imagination and helpful aiding questions; - Formulate an argument by considering key questions and counter arguments; - Write and present a persuasive pitch; - Peer-evaluate and self-evaluate persuasive pitches. I have also provided some examples of news stories featuring the worst and best pitches from the den, in order to provoke discussion about what makes a strong pitch. This was put together to be a class assembly with the theme of friendship. I also used converted videos as part of the assembly that I cannot upload with the resources. This was designed for a year 3 class of 27 children - all chn have 2 speaking parts. Hope you find this useful! (You will also need a bowl and paper chain people for the friendship ‘recipe’) Video 1: Queen song - ‘You’re my best friend’ with the word ‘honey’ changed to ‘Jesus’ and the word ‘girl’ changed to ‘Lord’. Video 2: Furever friends Video 3: i-movie of children talking about their friends - why they are friends-what makes them special etc. Video 4: Toy Story’s ‘You got a friend in me’.

An assembly all about the impact that random acts of kindness can have. It explores why we need to be kind to each other, the effect small acts can have on our family, friends and the wider communities and in turn our own wellbeing. The assembly lasts between 15 - 20 minutes, including a short clip from YouTube. The assembly is very easy to follow and is also editable. Simple assembly using the video from Time To Change named "Stand Up Kid" the purpose of this was to raise awareness of Mental Health Issues in our school. Feel free to remove our school logo and adapt the powerpoint. Let me know how this is received. It is worth noting that, when delivered SLT emphasised the fact that "If you wake up and can't be bothered to go to school because you don't like your maths teacher, you are not depressed" and "If you've fallen out with your friends about a party at the weekend/match of football, you are not suffering from anxiety" just to make sure you don't have an outbreak of people claiming they have a serious condition if they don't. It is, of course a useful resource for creating an environment where pupils who do have genuine concerns feel they can come forward and talk to staff/pupils about their issues.

Lesson requires students to create a budget from a sheet of available 'needs' and 'wants'. Extension: Students given a 'chance card' and must explain how they would respond to the change in circumstance.

Each of these stories has a specific goal: to teach one or more unique values to listening children. So, kids have fun while they learn important lessons they will never forget about what is truly important in life: honesty, sincerity, tolerance, generosity... … I hope that all the time, effort and enthusiasm put to create these materials result in a little aid for those educating and training children.
