Positive Male Role Models - Addressing Harmful Influences and Gender Stereotypes. In this lesson, students will explore the positive qualities and characteristics to consider when choosing a role model to emulate or be influenced by. Created to counter the harmful views propagated by online influencers such as Andrew Tate, this lesson empowers children to become critical consumers of information, rather than accepting online hearsay as fact. Intended as a gentle precursor to secondary school topics of misogyny and toxic masculinity, this lesson reminds students of their previous learning on gender stereotypes and applies this knowledge to new scenarios related to harmful gender stereotypes. While this lesson does not explicitly name Andrew Tate, we will apply our critical thinking skills to an age-appropriate selection of Tate’s quotes without crediting him as the influencer (please note that we have been careful to select examples that include no sexual references or violence). This lesson is suitable for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly LKS3 students in Year 7. Who are EC Resources? This fun and original assembly aids children in understanding the value of being creative in all of their endeavours, through: Understanding what creativity is, and recognising why it is such an important skill; Understanding that creativity is a trait within everyone (including themselves) that should be encouraged and harnessed; Observing some amazing examples of what creativity can result in; Learning strategies to demonstrate creativity in their own lives. This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. The session also includes a fun role-play task to demonstrate how everyone can be creative and the internet link to a beautiful, thought-provoking video demonstrating the power of creativity. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to understand how they can be creative in different areas of their own lives. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Updated for New Year 2024 Happy new year! Welcome 2024 by encouraging your class to reflect on the past year, and decide on goals or resolutions for the new year. This foldable activity is a great way to start January with positivity and a good mindset (and is a fun alternative to a worksheet). This resource contains the following: A PDF with 3 similar templates, with identical prompts. One template has a straight cutting edge. A PowerPoint file with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for pupils. These can then be printed for students to complete and fold. A Google Slides link (in the PDF) with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for pupils. As above, this can then be printed for students to use. A set of 15 fully prepared, highly detailed PowerPoint based lessons that include: the pages from the actual story, a range of activities per lesson, useful printable resources. The first two lessons are available to download free, to get a sense of the lesson structure (look in my shop). The book, Ocean Meets Sky, is beautiful. I have used these PP lessons with my Year 3 class and had incredible work created by them. Their level of thinking and inferencial work has blown me away, along with their writing. The work actually lasted me an entire term to get through - 6 weeks. There is more than a single lesson’s worth of work within each PowerPoint. I’ve poured my heart and soul into making these PowerPoints beautiful to see, easy to use, resource and understand. The lessons are definitely suitable for Lower KS2, and can work wonderfully with minimal adaptation for Upper KS2 also (my Y6 colleague confirmed this). **You do not need to buy the book in order to use these lessons **- the pages are within. But I would recommend buying ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ - the children LOVED reading this book (by the Fan Brothers) and seeing the illustrations in person. This beautiful and poignant story has stunning illustrations throughout (matched in the PowerPoints) and explores themes of family, memory and loss. The unit begins by introducing the authors to the children and highlighting the power of bookmaking/storytelling. Children find a mysterious box in the classroom labelled Grandpa’s Stuff. Inside they will find clues to who Grandpa was and his relationship with the main character, Finn. Finn misses his Grandfather after he has passed away and longs to travel to the fantastical worlds that his Grandpa would tell him about in his stories. Children are given a variety of meaningful writing opportunities throughout the sequence and gradually build up the skills to write an extended fantasy story of their own. Main outcomes: Setting and character descriptions, labels, diary entry, postcard, captain’s log, instructions, dialogue, extended fantasy narrative. The resources are based on the planning sequences for the same book by the Literary Curriculum. I’d recommend taking a look at their site for the planning document that aligns with this (and see the other brilliant stories they’ve created plans for).

Safe and Positive Relationships PSHE lesson + planning resources, observed as 'outstanding' for the new Personal Social Health Education curriculum. This lesson focuses on the different scenarios young people can find themselves in when forming relationships. Caffeine and Energy Drinks Lesson This 1-hour, fully resourced PSHE lesson is suitable for upper KS2 or lower KS3. It investigates the risks associated with consuming caffeinated energy drinks as well as looking at the harmful effects of consuming too many ‘free sugars’. The students will begin the lesson by reflecting on the events that swept the nation when the Prime product line was first released. We will discuss the reasons why some schools felt the need to ban the drink before delving into the health risks associated with excessive caffeine consumption. The students will look at the caffeine and sugar content of a variety of drinks, reflecting on their safety, suitability for young people, as well as the moral question of whether it is right to market these products to kids and young people. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well-differentiated, and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no-prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.

This fun and original assembly aims to assist children in celebrating the differences between themselves and others, through: -Understanding how diversity is needed in the world; -Recognising and valuing the differences in their own school; -Considering how kind words can help us to unite together. I love leading this assembly, because I feel that the key message within it is so vital, especially in the present climate. More importantly, wherever I have presented this (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of the different ways in which they have celebrated differences in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Prince Harry, Emma Watson, and others in popular culture, to help engage the children in the idea that each individual has their own strengths, weaknesses, like and dislikes, no matter who they are or how successful they appear. There is also an exciting ‘toothpaste challenge’ included, which demonstrates the importance of ensuring that our words to others are kind and respectful. The challenge includes a hyperlink to a countdown clock. In addition to this, all other resources that you will need are provided in the pack. This resource is for Year 5 and includes a variety of resources covering gestation (humans and animals), puberty, and old age developments. This resource includes: a topic cover page, 2 lesson plans, 2 lesson powerpoints, a variety of worksheets, and a differentiated worksheet. The lesson plans are detailed but can easily be reduced. The learning objectives are: 'to know what happens during pregnancy and explore the gestation periods of different animals' and 'to consider the changes that take place during puberty and old age'. This resource covers the statutory requirement: 'describe the changes as humans develop to old age' (DfE, 2013), as well as some aspects of working scientifically. This ‘T Shirt About Me’ activity, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker. It’s a creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to respond to 30 prompts and questions in a personal and imaginative way, using doodles, words, ‘graffiti style’ lettering and illustrations. Risk, dares and online challenges PSHE Lesson. A one hour-long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS2. In this lesson, the students will discuss the concept of risk and risk-taking. We will look at how a small element of risk applies to most everyday activities. We will discuss the steps that people commonly take to lower these everyday risks such as wearing a helmet when cycling, or carefully reading the instructions when taking prescribed medicines. We will then take a closer look at dares and online challenges. We will discuss the risks and dangers involved in a series of examples, and discuss strategies for resisting peer pressure. The lesson includes a set of discussion cards, an information sheet, a video clip activity, and clear, measurable learning outcomes. Who are EC Resources? A two lesson unit for study skills that looks at pupils identifying different learning styles and examining a range of fun and practical strategies to improve memory (using a range of video). The pack includes: Learning Style questionnaire and analysis. Video clips examining how the brain works and how to support memory development. A range of practical memory games and activities.

Simple assembly using the video from Time To Change named "Stand Up Kid" the purpose of this was to raise awareness of Mental Health Issues in our school. Feel free to remove our school logo and adapt the powerpoint. Let me know how this is received. It is worth noting that, when delivered SLT emphasised the fact that "If you wake up and can't be bothered to go to school because you don't like your maths teacher, you are not depressed" and "If you've fallen out with your friends about a party at the weekend/match of football, you are not suffering from anxiety" just to make sure you don't have an outbreak of people claiming they have a serious condition if they don't. It is, of course a useful resource for creating an environment where pupils who do have genuine concerns feel they can come forward and talk to staff/pupils about their issues.

A contextualised display of what the British Values might mean in 'student friendly' language. Have put these up in my own school, and they have gone down a treat.

Each of these stories has a specific goal: to teach one or more unique values to listening children. So, kids have fun while they learn important lessons they will never forget about what is truly important in life: honesty, sincerity, tolerance, generosity... … I hope that all the time, effort and enthusiasm put to create these materials result in a little aid for those educating and training children.
