A game I made for my small class of learners with autism. Suitable for any small group introduction - e.g. intervention group, speech and language, attention and listening. Learners throw a dice and move around the board. When they land on a question, they answer the question. I like to ask another member of the group a question relating to the answer, to encourage learners to pay attention to each other's answers - my children tend to have very little interest in each other! Supports social skills, attention and listening, turn taking. Used for specialist autism group but appropriate for any mainstream KS1 / KS2 group or older SEN group.

A resource I made for a mixed group of ks1 / ks2 children with autism / social communication needs. Aim is to develop greater understanding of feelings and to begin to develop awareness of other's feelings, also turn taking and attention and listening. Resource includes a feelings poster and 18 cards describing situations that have happened to an imaginary child - e.g. 'She has a wobbly tooth'. We discuss the various feelings an how children are feeling today. Cards are placed face down and children take turns to turn cards over. They consider how the person may be feeling. More able groups could be prompted / questioned to consider would everyone feel that way in that situation (some people can't stand having wobbly teeth, others get excited...) further developing theory of mind and understanding that people can feel differently about situations.

This resource is ideal for working one to one with a child. The red light is the negative emotion such as anger, frustration, fear, worry, sad and upset. The green light is the positive emotion such as happy, chilled, content, ok, calm, and confident. The amber/yellow light is all the things the child can do to help get from the red light to the green light. These are the tools. Make sure you go through the resource with the child and decide which ‘tools’ they need to use or try. Print and laminate this resource, Cut out the cards and keep in a little zip folder, Use either velcro or blu tak to stick the cards onto the base board. If you need the cards to be bigger just print all of it onto A3 paper and laminate.

This adapted morning work binder is an engaging and hands-on way to start each morning with your autistic students. Using the morning binder each day will help your students get into a routine where they come in, settle down and they are ready to work. Many of our students may struggle with transition in the mornings, so by providing this work book as a consistent routine in their daily morning routine, it will help them to settle quicker and be prepared to work. The books are editable so each student can have their own personalized morning binder. The document comes as a Keynote and PowerPoint file. You can add on different wording and add pictures of your student etc. but please note you will not be able to add/change/extract any form of clipart/imagery/text from this document. This is to protect our fabulous clip artists and myself as a teacher-author. This book comes in 2 levels; Level 1 - Students match images or symbols to each of the pages.
