Thinking skills on food & drink - a family have been poisoned, pupils use clues é menu to work out what they chose in the restaurant é which food they all had in their meal that poisoned them (IT WAS THE CHEESE). With low ability groups I gave clues in English but most groups should be fine with clues in French, maybe with some vocab to help. EDIT - people have asked if it's OK for them to adapt this for other languages and upload it. That's fine as long as you put a link to this resource and credit me with the original, and if you are sharing it freely. Glad you like it!

A brochure in French for Hogwarts School - my Y11s went nuts over this, they're all big Harry Potter fans, and its fame spread so I ended up with Y7s asking if they could see it too (I suspect a lot of them thought it was really from Hogwarts, bless them). You could use this for a reading comprehension, gapfill, speaking activity - anything really.

This stuff went down really well with my Y9s (middle ability). They'd learnt how to do regular avoir verbs in the perfect tense and I wanted to move them on to use some irregular verbs. The starter is matching the infinitives, past participles & English meaning of some irregular verbs, then I worked through the activities on the Dejeuner du Matin powerpoint. I'd say it would take 2-3 lessons to get everything done, depending how much time you spend on discussion and pronunciation practice.

Activites include an introduction to the perfect tense with avoir - different powerpoints are aimed at different ability levels - and a series of starters to practise it. There are also a number of mini whiteboard games, again for different abilities. If you need resources for the perfect tense with etre, I've uploaded some separately.

Handout I made for GCSE pupils on adjectives - my 6th formers kept theirs & still use it! It would also be suitable for higher ability KS3.

Connect 4 game for pupils to play in groups. Can be used for any language as there's no writing on the board.

These are from the old spec AQA GCSE papers, but they're still of use for revision & exam practice. I&'ve taken all of the questions from the last 3 years&'; reading, writing é speaking papers and put them into booklets by topic - I use them as ongoing homework or classwork with my GCSE groups as we're going through the key topics. Hope they&'re useful to other people as well!

A series of lessons I did with my Y9s on describing people's style/clothes. I put them into groups of about 4 and gave them all the vocab sheet (double sided on A3). They worked through the tasks on the powerpoint, building up a huge bank of vocab for the topic, interspersed with playing games to practise what they'd done so far. The final lesson used the 'describing outfits' powerpoint to wrap up everything they'd done - the results were impressive!

2 sheets with connectives, time phrases, opinion words etc. I give this to my GCSE groups and they use it a lot to improve their writing & speaking.

Worksheet on sports & likes/dislikes, created as cover work for a middle ability class who hadn’t really done this topic before so it deliberately contains a lot of cognates é easy vocab. It could easily be adapted for higher ability groups.

Games and activities to introduce and practise telling the time in French - o'clock, quarter & half only.

Text of someone describing themself and their family, with a range of different questions/vocab builders.

Pupils work in groups to build up to a description of a town based on a picture - full instructions are given in the powerpoint.

Vocab sheet for talking about past/future/usual holidays.

In groups of 2-4, pupils divide cards equally between them in piles face down in front of them. Each pupil takes turns to take the top card from their pile & reads the sentence out loud, then puts it face down in the middle. If they get a card that just says '¡Estás haciendo trampa!', they have to make up a sentence of their own on the same topic. If their opponents can tell they're making up the sentence on the spot, they can accuse the pupil of cheating - if they are, the pupil has to pick up all the cards from the middle. If not, the person who accused them picks up the cards.

This is a lesson I did for an observation so I thought I'd share it - it was with a Y7 class who were working on the topic of school and had just watched Les Choristes. The lesson introduces comparatives and superlatives (I missed this out though as there wasn't time, so you might want to split the activities over 2 lessons) and uses them to compare the school in the film with the pupils' school. It also includes a game and a plenary/homework sheet to practise.
