Halogens - Group 7 Reactions and reactivity

(40)
Presentation, worksheet and practical for teaching halogens. Explains displacement reactions of less reactive halogen salts using humorous cartoons and the practical reinforces how the colour changes observed during this can be used to identify the presence of specific halides (Note: my specification does not require knowledge of shielding, it only considers distance of outermost electron from nucleus)

Revision Notes for AQA Chemistry

(13)
This is a work in progress...I will update as I create the remaining units of C1, C2 and eventually add C3 (if the feedback is positive:)) It's something I designed for my students...not to have everything..but to have as much as possible put onto a single side of A4. Idea being if they knew what was on each single side they would get at the very least a C (and hopefully quite a bit more). A lot of the wording is also chosen based on answering common exam questions eg describing polymerisation, plate tectonics.

Covalent bonding

(3)
Scaffolded worksheets encourage students to consider how many covalent bonds an atom will form, depending upon its group number. Students then complete the electron shell diagrams on the worksheet for common molecules in the specification. A second worksheet develops the properties of simple molecules and finally a sequence of assessed questions allow students to reflect upon ionic versus covalent bonding and the resultant effect on the melting and boiling points of their structures. Accompanying Powerpoint presentation of electron shell diagrams and full answer sheets are supplied.
