This engaging investigation activity allows students to use develop their innovation, creativity and collaboration skills to control the direction of their enterprise project. The resource set guides students through the entire project, from conception to evaluation, and includes resources/ guidance for the following activities: -Deciding upon different roles within their groups, in order to carry out multiple tasks effectively; -Designing a company name and appropriate logo and slogan; -Researching their product area, including competitors and USPs; -Conducting market research; -Budgeting; -Detailed product design; -Packaging design; -Creating instructions for users; -Formulating and presenting a persuasive pitch; -Surveying the target audience for their feedback; -Self-evaluating strengths and areas for development. A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation guides students through the project. There are at least a week’s worth of resources in here, enabling students to fully immerse themselves in the project. I orignally have used this with KS2 and KS3 students, but they could reasonably be adapted for students in KS4. All images have been cited at the end of the PowerPoint presentation and are licensed for commercial use.

The latest in the new series of PowerPoint resources aimed at assisting teachers with the delivery of the WJEC/Eduqas A-level Business specification but this material is suitable for all boards. These slides and hand out are designed to support the delivery of the Component One topic of enterprise. They explain the meaning of enterprise and SMEs and show how entrepreneurs can spot opportunities in the market. They explain the role of the entrepreneur in creating, setting up, running and developing a business, and their financial and non-financial motives for becoming an entrepreneur. It then assesses the importance of entrepreneurs and SMEs to the economy and the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, before concluding with a summary of why new businesses often fail and a brief evaluation of the various stakeholders who are affected by a business. The slides contain the Quick Fire Five questions, and also a practice essay (with suggested solutions). In addition to the main PowerPoint a PDF copy of the notes has been provided to assist with pupil hand outs.

Market Research & Business Enterprise Workbook

(4)
A new workbook aimed at developing A Level Business students' understanding of enterprise, market research and sampling methods. Primarily written to support teachers and students following the WJEC/Eduqas specification it is relevant to all boards. The work provides a variety of case studies, tasks, presentations and assignments for students to complete and finishes with a self-assessment and review of progress. It starts with an enterprise element that builds upon booklet 1 (Business Enterprise and Business Plans) and this is to help incorporate an element of practical business into the course. I tend to use the Tycoon in Schools programme by Peter Jones for this. It also examines sampling in more detail than is strictly required but this is meant as a resource from which teachers can pick and choose.
