**Fairtrade Fortnight 2023 ** A 1-hour, all new global Citizenship lesson suitable for KS2. In this lesson, the students will learn how the Fairtrade Foundation helps to prevent the exploitation and unfair treatment of farmworkers in developing countries. We will discuss the role of the Fairtrade price guarantee in helping farmworkers to avoid poverty, and we will discuss the positive impact of the Fairtrade Premium on communities in developing countries. The students will investigate the meaning of a ‘fair price’ when we look at the income distribution of a bar of chocolate sold in a developed country, such as the UK. This is all new content (2023) and the files are fully editable. The lesson includes an information sheet, a video clip with questions, a Fairtrade problem solving task, and a plenary. Who are EC Resources? EC Resources are the top TES PSHE providers and are a group of teachers who work together to create easy to use, high quality and editable lessons and units of work. This is a very simple powerpoint. The idea is for slide 2 to give out chocolate unfairly. It is very simple, so children could make up another slide and add it if this were to be developed in other lessons for example. By the way there are 3000 fairtrade products now.(Question asked in slide)

This resource contains a fully editable, simple text, 75-slide PowerPoint presentation on the Fairtrade movement and Fairtrade Fortnight. It is an ideal assembly for primary school aged pupils on Fairtrade Fortnight and World Fair Trade Day. The PowerPoint explains what Fairtrade is and its positive impact on the lives of farmers and workers in developing countries around the world. It contains hyperlinks to two videos about farmers’ co-operatives - a cocoa co-operative and a banana co-operative. It also contains a link to Martin Luther King’s ‘Peace on Earth’ speech Martin Luther King in which he talks about the world’s inter-dependence. He gives testimony to how much we rely and depend on farmers and workers around the world in our lives for our everyday needs. It concludes with several questions to challenge pupils and to get them thinking about Fairtrade. A slightly longer, more detailed version of this presentation more appropriate for secondary-aged pupils is also available: Fairtrade - 80 Slide PowerPoint Presentation Please note that the watermark on the preview images is not present on the resource itself. Assembly about Fairtrade for KS3 or KS4, it's an amalgamation of an assembly for Fair Trade Fortnight 2016 and 2017, but could be used as an introduction to Fair Trade. Uses the example of how the cost of a chocolate bar is split between producers/company/tax. I print the attached labels and tie string to them so the four volunteers can wear them. Also highlights some of the other things that have Fair Trade options Most of the images are from the Fair Trade Foundation website, the map comes from their 2016 resources. Fair trade stickers and schools packs can be ordered from their website Selection of different you tube links to relevant videos included
