Equipment, Weighing and Measuring Lesson
Including worksheet and activity.
Tried and tested in 1 hour lesson both in class and digital learning.
Ideal for home learning environment.
Weighing using standard and non standard measurements. 24 activity worksheets.
Identifying which object is heaviest and lightest from a choice of 2 after weighing them using cubes, counters (non standard) or grams (standard).
Suitable for SEN, Early Years, Primary, Preschoolers. 24 worksheets in total (18 suitable for lower abilities, 12 for middle and 18 suitable for higher abilities). As an extension higher ability pupils should be challenged to make their own worksheet - what objects will they choose and can they estimate which will be heaviest and lightest, then weigh the objects and check if their estimate was correct?
18 worksheets for lower abilities- 6 for identifying which is heavier and lighter (using balancing scales place one of the objects one side and the other object at the opposite side of the scales, then see which side moves down showing the heaviest object).
12 worksheets for lower and middle abilities to use balancing scales to compare 2 everyday items, then use photos to cut out, stick and glue, or if able to write they can write their answer in the correct column (non standard).
6 worksheets for higher abilities to use scales to weigh and record the weight of objects in grams, then to identify which one was heaviest and which was lightest (standard). They can also use the 12 worksheets using counters and cubes to weigh the objects. To make it harder get them to estimate the number first, before checking how close they were.
In this busy session, children learn about shops and what it was like to shop for food in the past. They use scales to measure out ingredients, make shopping lists and bake cakes!
Suitable for years 1 and 2.

Mental and oral starter - ordering grams on a number line.
Main activity to estimate objects around the classroom that are more or less than 500g. To then record the weight of objects to the nearest 100g. Compare what objects are lighter and heavier.
This is a 2 page worksheet for use in a Weighing and Measuring lesson, featuring a codebreak where students record common abbreviations, a space for student to sketch a variety of different weighing/measuring equipment.
I use this worksheet alongside my weighing and measuring powerpoint (available on my shop). This worksheet and powerpoint asked students to move around weighing stations to practice using different pieces of equipment.

Welcome to the world of Mrs Mactivity! We make activity based printable learning resources for the age 3-8 age range. We are huge fans of child led learning, so we’ve made a series of Reggio Emilia inspired provocations - also called invitations to play - with planning, prompts, supplies, photos for inspiration and more! This is a one page version of the plan, but we also have a full version over at the Mrs Mactivity website. Both have full links to Early Learning Goals, Early Years Outcomes and are great for both experienced and new Early Years practitioners.

KS2 Measurement - Weighing with Standard Units Worksheet
This worksheet provides a framework for pupils to develop their understanding of weight/mass. Pupils are tasked with finding objects that weigh about the same as the weights listed on the sheet. This document is editable so you can edit and add to the weights listed. This is a great activity for pupils to complete in groups and to encourage pupils to use comparative language.
Year 3 maths weight problems
Children have to use problem solving to work out the weights of the different shapes on the opposite side of the scale. Then once they have worked out the weights of the different shapes, they then work out the weight of the mystery boxes.
Differentiated by difficulty of division and addition of weights.
