A worksheet on gravity and weight.
This includes a technician guide. Students weigh different objects which are labelled with their mass. They then try and work out which planet they are on using the W=mg Weight, mass, gravitational field strength equation.
This is a problem-solving activity in which children have to put the correct numbers onto the train carriages, making sure that each carriage weighs 11kg.
Weight (three days).
Children recognise that we measure weights by repeating a unit. Children are introduced to the need for standard units – grams and kilograms. They measure objects to the nearest 100 grams using balances and 100g weights and then estimate which objects weigh more than 100g and which weigh less.

Weight (three days).
Children compare objects with kilogram and 100g weights and then use scales to check. They learn to read scales to the nearest labelled division and weigh their shoes to the nearest 100 grams.

Two lessons that focus on the EU referendum. The first explores what a referendum is in general and weighs up the pros and cons of using them to decide on issues. The second lesson specifically focuses on the EU referendum and simplifies the arguments on both sides of the debate. There are a wide range of interactive activities , printable resources, differentiation, short video and accompanying task. There is a formal assessment at the end with mark scheme and peer/self review task. There is also an optional creative task for students to do as part of a display.
20 posters. 10 fruits and 10 vegetables. 2 posters to a page.
Great for displays or visual aids for your Plant / Food topic.
A good idea is to cut out the posters and add them to the front of brown paper bags. Use for sorting cards into or real / imitation fruits and vegetables.
Use for weighing or adding / taking away also or in the class ‘Shop’ for role play.
This unit has activities dealing with number problems, weighing and measuring, language arts, art and crafts, and science. There are details of hatching eggs in a classroom incubator and how to look after the ducklings in the weeks after hatching. This unit may be used any time of the year, but Spring time is ideal for hatching. Handouts are included. A rubric is included to track the progress of each student.
Weight (three days).
Children see how objects of different weights affect a homemade spring balance, comparing three objects at a time. They compare objects, feeling the weight of them, estimating which is heavier or lighter and then use balances to compare them. Children find how many bricks weigh the same as given objects by using balances.

Can you break the cat burglar's code? Which puppy weighs the most? Who's scored the highest in the dance competition. This ‘Lesson Starters’ episode for KS2 maths presents eight dramatised maths problems for use on the interactive whiteboard. Each problem contextualises a different primary maths topic.
Topics include decimals, ratio and proportion, percentages and area.
Following each drama sequence, a problem screen highlights the maths involved. The most suitable year-group, in terms of difficulty, is suggested at the beginning of each problem.
There are two lists, one taking a positive view of a Trump action, and the other, a negative take. The students match these up, then describe what the images represent. Finally, they weigh up their own opinions about Trump’s policies. This sheet could be used in a debate about Trump. Obviously, this is not an exhaustive list, but hopefully it will encourage them to find out more. Actually, I have put quite a bit of effort into this, so I hope it will be useful!
This colourful cross curricular quiz enables groups of students to work in teams. The 5 rounds explore the Viking era, weighing of metals, writing, Viking ships, and a Viking journey. Mathematics has been used in all aspects of this quiz. Codes, vectors, ordering years, and calculations. A link to the BBC website adds further interest in order to solve one of the problems (approx 3 mins). There is an accompanying answer sheet for teams to use. This quiz could be used as a stand alone quiz or as part of a topic. NB The score slide has been updated to allow keyboard entry. An animation help slide for vectors has been added 12.04.17

Artefact 1: These weights were used by traders to measure the goods they traded. This small one would have been used to weigh gold and beads, and this bigger one to weigh sacks of grain.
Artefact 2: This little statue, made of clay shows a woman wearing lots of jewellery – probably dressed for a special occasion.
Artefact 3: This bronze statue is of a woman wearing her hair braided, and with lots of bangles on her left arm. We can learn a lot about how the people looked from these statues.
Artefact 4: This model cart, ox and pig were toys, made from clay.
Artefact 5: This necklace has gold and green stone beads. They were very rare and valuable so this would have been worn by a rich lady.

In this video you will see chickens being reared to lay eggs. This is the beginning of the production of chicken for restaurants, shops and supermarkets. Chicken production begins at a rearing farm. The rearing farm produces a healthy flock of birds to lay eggs which will be sent to a hatchery. A range of breeds are reared on the farm. One day old chicks are brought to the farm and are fed a special diet, along with water. The birds are weighed regularly to keep an eye on their health. The birds are also given medicine to protect them from diseases. The health and welfare of the chickens is very important to the farmer. To keep the chickens healthy the workers wear protective clothing, change and clean their boots and clean their hands. The birds and the equipment are checked at least three times a day to make sure the chickens are being kept in good conditions. Suitable for children aged 8-11 years of age.
