This has been written for a year 3 assembly but can easily be adapted for other age groups. The assembly follows the adventures of Big Skeleton, Little Skeleton and their dog Sherlock Bones. Big and Little just want to eat junk food all day so Sherlock tells them all about how to have a healthy diet. Cast: The cast is easily adaptable to suit a class of 25 or more children. Main characters: Narrator Big Skeleton Little Skeleton Sherlock Bones The Carbohydrates Group The Fats and Sugars Group The Proteins Group The Dairy Group The Fruit and Vegetable Group Props: A bag of crisps A “script” for the narrator See through sandwich bags containing weights of sugars (x4) A 45g bar of Dairy Milk A bottle of banana milkshake A box of Coco pops A diary A radio (doesn’t have to work) Music: Suggested: Food groups are Rockin’ Tonight (available through YouTube) Funny Bones cartoon theme and end credits. Duration: The script should last about 15 to 20 minutes; this does not include music. The script can be edited or amended to suit the needs of the children taking part in the assembly or to fit in with what the students have been covering in class.

A professionally designed Christmas quiz for teachers of Food & Nutrition to use with KS3-5 students, featuring 60 well-presented questions, and an answer sheet. If you like it: leave a 5* rating and email us (godwin86@gmail.com) and we’ll send you a beautiful Christmas Crossword worksheet for free! The quiz also includes a word-search (on screen) and a couple of anagram rounds. Fifty of the questions are all Christmas-related and not connected to a specific school-subject: the final ten are subject specific and deal either with GCSE terminology of “fun facts”. Differentiation can easily be achieved by changing quiz group sizes. The quiz is suitable for KS3-5. Completing and peer-marking the 60-question quiz should take the best part of a 1-hour lesson.

This particular unit of work includes a selection of engaging theory tasks and a practical cooking session. The Practical Element requires learners to pair up and follow a method to cook a Pork Stir fry which can be adapted to taste or to consider intolrances, allegies and dietry choice. They then can complete a written evaluation which includes guided questioning. Any photographs taken during the practical will be attached as additional evidence. The resource is very interactive and has been put together by a series of teachers to improve the consistency. Once I go over the presentation I demonstrate a recipe for a milk fruit smoothie (125mls milk, 125mls natural yogurt, 7 peach slices, 1 banana, 10ml strawberry nesquik) to encourage kids to drink more milk.
