This is a comprehension I made for my year 4 class. There are three different sets: one that can be used like a booklet, where the text and questions are on the same page with mostly retrieval questions one where the text is separate to the questions and questions are a mix of retrieval and more higher order including vocabulary one where the text is separate to the questions and questions are varied from giving evidence from the text to vocabulary questions etc. I think it can be used with high year 2 as well as KS2. This is a comprehension to use in English to jazz up your lessons when approaching Christmas. I would recommend it for (a high) year 2 and higher. It is based on the song 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day' by Wizzard which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kx4Cyhf_neU There are four differentiated sheets with the lyrics of the songs and questions underneath. -Extended level: Retrieval and higher order thinking questions (Why, What does it mean..., Which word tells you that...) - Core: Focused more on simple retrieval from the text. - Lower Core/Nurture: Simple retrieval from the text but scaffolded multiple choice for half of the questions. - Nurture, SEN, EAL: Using the song and text children write words to match picture (vocab), find adjectives used to describe things and draw scenes from the song/label them.

Here are 5 worksheets for finding all possibilities problem solving lessons. I could not categorise this resource on here properly as 'Using and Applying' or 'Problem Solving' are not on the TES system. Most of these resources are differentiated 2 ways but I found it worked best to do them in partners and discuss as class etc. It's good to do those over a few weeks as some are similar and reinforce learning points such as using a system/logical way of working eg always starting with same colour... Tower building challenge: Use 4 differently coloured blocks - in which order can you arrange the blocks? How many ways are there? Notebook File attached. Ice Cream challenge: Use 4 different ice cream flavours - in which order can you arrange them on the cone? How many ways are there? (A 3 scoop version available too) Design a flag challenge: Use 3 or 4 different colours- in which order can you arrange them on flags? How many ways are there? Mini beast hunt: 3 different kinds of minibeasts were found, 10 or 20 altogether. What are the different options? Chinese New Year Race Challenge: 3 (or 4) more animals turn up for the race of the zodiac. They missed it and have their own race. In which order could they finish?

This comprehension is all about Chinese New Year and its customs and traditions. It is great for research as well as for English comprehension lessons. It is differentiated four ways: 1. Core: Retrieval questions as well as some higher order thinking questions. 2. Extended: Higher order thinking questions, some retrieval and some focus on vocabulary. 3. Nurture: Retrieval with multiple choice. 4. SEN/EAL: More basic comprehension, based on vocabulary mainly (eg. drawing the animals of the zodiac and the customs / traditions). I made this resource for my year 2 class. There are differentiated worksheets/challenges designed to use when learning about and =. You can either teach the whole class and just use the sheet ot do the following: I designed it so that the WAGD group can teach themselves while you teach the rest of the class about the signs. The WAGD group reads the first few sheets and does the started activity independently. When you send the rest of the class to work on the activity you can check in on the WAGD group and move them on to further challenges included. Differentiated for SEN as well - cutting an sticking crocodile signs. This is a great resource for children to use for maths when we celebrate the Royal Wedding 2018. The teacher simply needs to add the prices depending on the year group’s needs (and differentiate it for different groups) and then children work on word problems (mostly multiplication) about party planning with Royal Wedding Merchandise… There are also two group tasks if you would like a more open ended activity; one where children decide what to buy for how many people and find the total and one where children plan on a budget that you set and have to figure out what they can get for the amount they have. AGain the teacher will have to add prices. I hope that works - feedback very welcome, have already acted upon feedback and improved the resource. I also included a powerpoint about Buckingham Palace - interior and exterior - to show children what it looks like and to get an idea of Royal life. Here are 6 differentiated worksheets (2 pages each) that I made for my class to relate maths learning to Harvest. On each sheet, the letters of the alphabet are printed at the top and each letter has a value. Children then have to work out the total of several harvest words printed on the sheet. There are three sheets designed for applying mental strategies to work out name scores: -WALT add using mental strategies: Adding single-digit numbers using basic number bonds. - WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 10. - WALT add using mental strategies: Adding several multiples of 100. There are three more differentiated sheets, where children can apply the column method or a calculator for addition to work out the score of each name: - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 30). - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 50). - WALT add several two-digit numbers (each individual number below 100). These differentiated maths sheets are about on bar charts: Children read the table of how many children like which fruit and make a bar chart of it plus they answer questions about it. It is differentiated into bar charts that go up in 1s, 2s and 5s. It is further differentiated for each (1s, 2s or 5s) - one is more scaffolded and the bar chart has been prepared, the other needs children to label their own bar chart. Furthermore the same activity again but with a blank table for children to investigate in their own class and create a car chart from there. PLEASE NOTE: This is only one resource. I always have a vote on the last day of term to elect the hardest worker, kindest person, funniest person and more... and each child is allowed to vote for who they think the award should go to and they can write down the 3 people that fit best into each category. They love it! I print/write the class name and date on there, sign it, laminate the certificates and set them up at the front of the classroom when they come in on their last day. I also buy the cheap plastic trophies from Sainsbury's, and stick the attached little labels on them before they go out. I also make a year book with them a week before we break up, which I get them to fill in and then copy for the whole class. It's a lot of fun and a nice keepsake for them and their parents. Enjoy! I created this differentiated worksheet for my year 2 class when we analysed and interpreted data. Questions include simple retrieval such as How many people like? What is the most/least popular item as well as adding up totals (How many people like ... and ...?) and finding the difference questions such as How many more people liked ... than ... Each group has 2 or 3 sheets. It is differentiated for the lowest group as well and includes a mastery style question for the high ability. This is quite a fun activity for English lessons or Guided Reading lessons where children have to come up with a caption for a picture and then draw a picture for a given caption using inference skills and thinking about what might have happened. There are 14 worksheets and my class really loved it as well as a notebook to introduce the activity.

I made these sheets for my year 2 class to work on in mixed ability pairs. I think it would work with year 3 and 4 and possibly with high level year 1 children as well. Please note they are not differentiated! It worked very well though, I got them talking together in groups of 2. The skills practised are the following: - Question words: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking carefully about what kind of answer the question word asks for. It is done in two parts - one where they have to read a question and discuss what kind of thing they are looking for in the answer eg a place, a person etc. The second part has questions and possible answers, all multiple choice. There is no text but children have to work out from the question word which answer is correct by identifying if the question asks for a time, place, reason etc. - Inference: Looking at the clues in the text and using them to make sense of what happened - Language: (sheets for two sessions) Thinking about language choices, understanding words, picking out synonyms etc.

I created this for my KS1 team as displays for their classrooms. It explains all terminology that children (and teachers) need to be able to know and use in English in year 1 and year 2 according to the New Curriculum in child speak. Hope you find it useful.

This resource consists of the following six mostly differentiated activities related to the World Cup: Problem-solving lesson with notebook and 3 differentiated sheets. Children design new football kit for their favourite national team consisting of tshirts, shorts (and socks) and find all possibilities of combining them when using 2 (3) colours. Bar chart lesson. Children use data from a Workd Cup table and put it into a bar chart. Differentiated. First bar chart in ones up to 6 and children enter amount of world cups won by different nations. Second bar chart in twos up to 6 and children enter amount of world cups won by different nations. Third bar chart in tens up to 230 where children enter amount of goals scored in world cups for several nations. All bar charts have at least 5 follow-up questions. First two probably more suited to KS1, last one to KS2. Symmetry activity. Children use pictures of flags of all participating teams which are included and sort them into symmetrical and not symmetrical. Included is another sheet on explaining our reasoning - choose two non-symmetrical flags - what would need to be changed so they are symmetrical, explain. Sorting Activity: Children use pictures of flags of all participating teams which are included and sort them using their own criteria into a Venn or Carroll diagram. A quick activity on comparing two flags - how are they the same and how are they different. One activity where children use information on who won the world cup when and put the countries in chronological order by year. One scaffolded sheet and one not scaffolded. This is the planning (very skeletal) that I have used in my year 2 class for a week on 2D shapes. Probably suitable for higher year 1 and lower year 3 as well. All resources included, very skeletal plan and 21 pages notebook file for teaching/modelling/plenaries. If you haven't got notebook/smartboard software I attached a PDF file of the slides which can also be used. All you need is some 2D shapes for the children and mirrors for the symmetry lesson. :) Includes sheets, plan (skeletal - see below) and notebook. SHAPE PLANNING - Worksheets and Notebook File for whole week included Monday Shape introduction, what are 2D and 3D shapes. Naming the different 2D shapes and matching names to shapes, then yes/no or thumbs up and down activity. Then model how to do main activity for the day, recording the properties of the different shapes - children work on properties in pairs. Do first shape together. Children do activity from sheet 1. Then mark as class. Plenary is a bit of shape fun! Tuesday Write down ten words, either shape names or properties etc. Children have to guess all ten words in one minute. Introduce activity. Take two shapes from the shape box in your classroom and put them together in any way you like. Draw around them on your sheet. Now can you describe the properties of the new shape? Challenge - name the polygon. Peer marking as plenary. Wednesday Write down ten words, either shape names or properties etc. Children have to guess all ten words in one minute. Then use whiteboard file to model shape sorting as class using venn diagram. Children sort shapes into venn diagram on sheets and move on to carroll diagram or use it for differentiation. Also shape sorting tree as challenge. Plenary: Look at the Venn diagram - which shape is in the wrong place? Thursday Give each child a mirror and some 2D shapes from the class box. Can they cut the shape in half using the mirror? Does the mirror image finish the shape in the same way? Print worksheets from this website: http://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/symmetry.php Plenary: Discuss the real life images and discuss whether they are symmetrical or not - also introduce rotational symmetry using recycling logo as starting point. Friday Introduce children to geoboards. What can you do with them? Give them rubber bands and a few moments to explore how to use them. Then introduce idea of making pentagons - explain difference between regular and irregular pentagon. Then children have to make as many different pentagons on geoboards as they can and record them on sheet. They decide if they are regular or irregular. Plenary: Peer marking.

There is one sheet with all the names of the countries and their flags which is followed by 4 activity sheets: 1. Comparing two flags. Children choose two flags, draw them and compare them - what is the same and what is different. 2. Sorting the flags into symmetrical and non-symmetrical flags. 3. I made these worksheets for my year 2 class. It teaches them the skills of using partitioning with Dienes Cubes/ Base 10 in order to help them double numbers. It is very visual and they really understood it well. They drew the number that needed to be doubled twice and counted ones and tens to get the answer for its double. I made this resource for my year 2 class after teaching the fractions of shapes and to move them on using this model to find fractions of numbers. There are differentiated worksheets. This is how we did it: 1. Colour in the fraction that you have to find on the circle eg 1/2. 2. Look at the number you have to share (eg 6) and share it into the fraction shown (on the circle share 6 between the two halves). 3. Count how many each fraction has. 4. Check the amount is equal.
