This simple visual aid will make taking the lunch count each day so much more simple; use this as a simple classroom management tool. This visual aid makes taking the lunch count a simple picnic! Affix each of the five mini-posters on the wall in a prominent place for the students to be able to reach and manipulate. Place each student’s name on a clothespin with a black marker and clip to the “Present” mini-poster. As part of opening school routines and procedures, teach your students, as they arrive to the classroom first thing in the morning, to take their clothespin and clip to one of the appropriate mini-posters to indicate their lunch plans for the day which might be: (1) a hot school lunch; (2) a salad from the salad bar at school; (3) a salad that is solely fruit from the school salad bar; and/or (4) the student may have brought his/her lunch from home. The clothespins which are never moved indicate those students who are either tardy and/or absent. As the 100th day of school approaches, get all of your students excited about what they have already accomplished this school year as well as what is in store for them for the rest of the school year. In this training and support packet of materials, you will find a powerpoint presentation that can be used for a professional learning community session, a focused faculty meeting, and/or a professional development session. This pennant is sure to get your students back in the groove of school after the Christmas break. On the pennant, students are asked to write a five to seven sentence paragraph about what they did over their Christmas break. Also, they are asked what was their most favorite present and who did they receive it from. Also, they are asked if they traveled anywhere during Christmas break and if so, where did they travel? Finally, on the perimeters of the pennant, students are asked to write an acrostic for winter as well as create a shape poem for a snowman! Students are sure to enjoy this activity as they "get in the groove" of school again in January!

What a better way to start the school year! This resource is an Interest Inventory to help you to get to know your students! Students are able to list their favorites… such as their favorite subject, food, movie, person, place, and book, etc. Response to Intervention, a federal mandate, states that in Tier I we take the opportunity to get to know our children in every way possible! This inventory allows you, as a teacher, to have another tool to get to know your students well and engage the unmotivated with a topic they are interested in learning!!

This is an awesome set of notes for positive praise for the month of October. The set of three different positive praise notes are set against an October background and will bolster the motivation level of your students and will be a great source of encouragement. These notes can be given daily or weekly attached to signed papers. It is a great way of communication. Notes include statements such as: "I helped a friend, I tried hard, I finished all of my work,... etc."

The RAFT strategy is a great strategy for being able to differentiate instruction in terms of content, process, and product. It is that time of the year again in terms of viewing the infamous lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in New York City. But, have your students ever investigated the process of how that huge tree actually gets to its final destination? Have your students traced the history of how this celebration and tradition originated in the first place? Have your students investigated the history of the ornaments on the tree? What about the history of the lights on the tree? Have they determined how November 30th is celebrated in terms of “lighting” the tree? This is an awesome opportunity to explore all of the answers to these questions through using such strategies as jigsaw, discussion, inquiry, and discovery. Then, after this portion of the teaching and learning sequence has taken place, students can take part in the RAFT activity where they get to make a choice in each column of the activity. For example, students might choose to write from the perspective of the Christmas tree itself and write to the farm from which the tree has been growing all of these years prior to it being cut. The writing might be in the form of a narrative piece of writing where the tree tells the story of growing up on the farm all of those years and how he/she might have longed to become the famous tree in Rockefeller Center one day. The tree might narrate his/her journey all the way to the final destination and the lighting on November 30th. This is only one example. Of course, there are many, many other options, and many other opportunities for mini-lessons along the way!
