Solving Inequalities

Solving Inequalities

(63)
Two lessons on solving inequalities. One with just the algebra and the second includes forming them from worded situations. The powerpoints have been made to go with exercises from 10 Ticks that are indicated on the title screen. If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)

Maths Further Pure 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(61)
Powerpoints and worksheets (good as unit tests) for the entire FP2 course, in a similar style to my other A-level stuff. Made for the Edexcel Pearson books but can probably be adapted for other courses. There is a simple geogebra file that goes with the Further Complex numbers PPT, but you'll have to edit the hyperlink! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here (There is a lot of A-level work!) :)
Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones
Owen134866Owen134866

Surface Area of Pyramids and Cones

(59)
2 lessons on the aforementioned topics. There is a selection of harder questions to challenge the more able on the each sheet and a demonstration of where the formula for the curved surface area of a cone comes from. If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
3D Trigonometry
Owen134866Owen134866

3D Trigonometry

(47)
Powerpoint to be used to explain how to use Trigonometry in 3D shapes. Includes a starter, main explanation and a plenary. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Maths Mechanics 3 - Set of lesson powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Maths Mechanics 3 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(43)
Set of powerpoints to help with the teaching of the A-level Mechanics 3 course. These have been mapped to the edexcel textbooks in a similar way to my other A-level stuff and have chapter tests made up of old exam questions, with mark schemes included. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Equivalent Fractions Game
Owen134866Owen134866

Equivalent Fractions Game

(42)
Pupils roll dice and simplify the fractions they get on the grid, with the person with the biggest fraction getting a point. I usually play 10 rounds and then pupils move round and play someone else. They can also discuss at the end whether the game was fair and how to determine whether it was or wasn't. Sometimes if the class is small I record results on the board (like football scores) and get them to draw a up a league table! Using one graph to solve another
Owen134866Owen134866

Using one graph to solve another

(42)
This is a topic that is quite hard to explain but hopefully this 2 lesson sequence will help. Pupils should already know how to plot linear and quadratic graphs and this builds up to using the graph of one equation to solve a different one. Everything needed is here but you will need to write on the powerpoint in parts. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Angles in Polygons
Owen134866Owen134866

Angles in Polygons

(35)
A lesson covering rules for finding interior and exterior angles in polygons. Includes a worksheet with answers and a load of challenge questions from the UKMT papers. I really like to use this with the excellent 'Angles in Polygons Challenge' worksheet uploaded by the legendary Tristan Jones! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/angles-in-polygons-challenge-6443005
Areas of Flags (with circles)

Areas of Flags (with circles)

(26)
A while ago I uploaded a set of resources on calculating the areas of shapes on flags, see here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/areas-of-flags-6327719 A number of people messaged me asking if I had one for circles - and here is is now! I had to get creative with finding flags I could use, and I’d recommend that you have already had a lesson on Area and Circumference before this, as the questions get very challenging! Thank you to @1hannahjones for making a number of corrections and clarifications! Congruent Halves
Owen134866Owen134866

Congruent Halves

(22)
Pupils have to split shapes into congruent pairs by drawing lines on them. Makes teaching congruency more interesting and there is an extension activity for more investigation. You will need to write on some of the powerpoint slides! Thanks to Jim Noble (@teachmaths, http://www.teachmathematics.net/) for the idea! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Matrix Transformations
Owen134866Owen134866

Matrix Transformations

(19)
These lessons are designed to go with the IGCSE course and the CIE Extended textbook. The first shows pupils how to transform a shape by multiplying its coordinates by a Matrix, and pupils should experiment to see if they can find any specific transformations. The second lesson, pupils are shown how to work out a specific transformation. These follow on from my other resource on Matrix Algebra (also on TES). If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff! :)
Completing the Square
Owen134866Owen134866

Completing the Square

(14)
2 lesson sequence on Completing the Square. The first lesson pupils are introduced to the pattern and how to rewrite expressions under various conditions. The second lesson pupils actually use the process to solve equations. This has been made to go with our IGCSE textbooks but I imagine most courses structure it in a similar way! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Quadratic Pythagoras' Theorem
Owen134866Owen134866

Quadratic Pythagoras' Theorem

(3)
Lesson on using the Quadratic formula with Pythagoras' Theorem to answer questions involving right-angled triangles with all sides unknown, but with information linking them. Will probably challenge even the most able of GCSE students! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Formulae from Dotted Sequences
Owen134866Owen134866

Formulae from Dotted Sequences

(3)
I had an idea like this a while ago but recently saw it again in a magazine so I decided to put it together as a lesson in my usual way. Pupils find formulae for quadratic sequences by considering patterns of dots and their shapes, rather than the actual numbers involved. There is a second lesson here as well where they can work backwards and create patterns of dots that fit a given formula... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Standard Unit Prefixes (Standard Form extension)
Owen134866Owen134866

Standard Unit Prefixes (Standard Form extension)

(8)
Pupils practice Standard Form (which they should be familiar with before this lesson is taught), and learn about many of the prefixes used. For example changing milligrams to micrograms, how big is a yottametre compared to a picometre etc. Why say 1000 kilometres when you could just say 1 Megametre? They usually find all the names of units quite interesting! If you like this resource then please have a look at my other stuff on here! :)
Coordinate Patterns
Owen134866Owen134866

Coordinate Patterns

(7)
Pupils plot coordinates based on rules. This is effectively graph plotting but without using the formal algebra. The powerpoint is set up in such a way that certain sections should be written on and the worksheet has plenty of questions! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :) EDIT: 1/4/14 Improved the visibility of the gridlines on the sheet.
Histograms Lessons
Owen134866Owen134866

Histograms Lessons

(144)
Powerpoints and Worksheets for 2 lessons on Histograms. One where the pupils learn to draw them and one with a recap of drawing as well as how to interpret some simple questions. Some can be done directly from the board with pupils discussing how to answer the questions given. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/search/?f=authorId%5B2095097%5D
Plotting Quadratic Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Plotting Quadratic Graphs

(102)
Pupils are shown how to plot Quadratic graphs including both positive and negative x-squared coefficients. Has a few examples of where they may be used to model motion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
