DIFFERENTIATED DIVISION FOR 4 GROUPS When teaching division this week, I struggled to find a resource in which I needed. In Mathematics, I like a resource to be differentiated, while allowing the children to move up to a higher set themselves, if they find the work too easy. This resource allows children to make great progress in one lesson as they can be challenged constantly, rather than completing page after page of the same type of calculation. My class have not yet moved onto long division, so it is differentiated by: Bronze: No remainders or carry ons. Silver: Harder division calculations with some remainders. Gold: All with remainders and involving all times tables. Upon finishing the gold section, there is an additional section called platinum. This section allows a further challenge for children in completing ‘missing calculation’ division questions, ‘reasoning and explanation’ questions and ‘spot the mistakes’ questions (answers included). It’s based off Maths Mastery ideas. These files have been saved as a PDF and include answers. If you are teaching your class about myths or simply just want a comprehension activity that is SLIGHTLY different from the norm, then this resource is for you. Included: *Text *Questions to check understanding (inc ordering events, decoding meaning etc) *Creation Station- where children create their own labyrinth. *Adjective Alley- children create amazing adjectives and phrases to describe the minotaur. *The New Minotaur- children will get their creative juices flowing and create a Minotaur of their own, perhaps even half human, half unicorn. A comprehension based on the story of ‘Who killed King Tut’. (a report) Children are encouraged to use their inference skills and comment on why the author has used a certain structure to help the reader. Children will use a range of reading skills and strategies when answering this comprehension.

BACK TO SCHOOL!!! (Already?) One of my main goals on day one is to build relationships with the children and leave them go home on the first day feeling happy and safe in their new classroom environment. The idea behind this resource is that each child write a nice comment on their peers’ jigsaw pieces, so that by the end of the lesson, each child has a nice comment from everyone in the class. I then plan to cut the jigsaw pieces out and display them in the classroom for the year, for children to refer to anytime they wish. It also gives you an opportunity to set expectations for a more “busy” lesson, i.e. silent when walking around the room/no running/no pushing etc. Included is: The activity sheet A short powerpoint explaining how to engage in this activity! This product allows you to create your own headings for any display as I have included all 26 letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case letters. Needing some inspiration for my reading corner, I created this display in order to show case the children’s reading books. The idea behind it is that the book templates will be printed out for children to fill in whenever they complete a book. They can draw the front cover and fill in the blurb on the back and the teacher can laminate the books and hang them from a string underneath the heading. It’s a super cute idea to show off all the books that you’re class have read and let’s face it, it looks really colorful in your reading area. Included: *The display name: “Books we’ve Read” *Book templates to print out. (See cover photo for a clearer idea).

I created this document to hand out to my parents at the beginning of the school year. It’s a short snippet of activities that parents could engage with with their children. There are 7 pages, including: *Some sample questions to ask children while reading. *Rate out of 10. To allow children to form opinions on what they’ve read. *Re-tell the story. To allow children to order parts of the story. *Change the ending. This allows children to take their understanding to another level. *Strategies for parents when reading with their children. This resource was put together as a test for my year 4 class at the end of the year to check their knowledge of SPAG. I have attached the SPAG curriculum to ensure that I have included lots of different areas of this subject. Children are tested on: * their knowledge of punctuation (commas, question marks, speech marks and apostrophes plural and possessive). * their knowledge of SPAG terminology (main/subordinate clause, frontal adverbial, determiner, adverb, suffix, preposition, contractions). This test gave me a great insight into the progress they’ve made, but also which areas that they are still not so sure on. A simple display I used when studying the book ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’. We used this book to create pieces of writing with issues and dilemmas. (Planning is available in my shop also). Children loved the colorful characters which confirmed their understanding of what a dilemma was, while learning about the country of South Africa at the same time. *I know the sign in my cover picture (Jo’Berg) is spelled wrong, however I have fixed it in the resource itself.

This is a rewards and sanction chart in which I made with my class. It is coloured green, orange and red to indicate a child's behaviour. Each child will design their own peg at the beginning of the school year and attach it to the green section, which reads, 'I have earned all of my Golden Time'. If a child misbehaves, or doesn't follow the rules, they will then go and move their own peg to the orange section, which is labelled 'warning. If a child further disobeys the rules, they then must move their peg to the red section accordingly (i.e. 5 minutes lost, then 10 etc). The picture attached is the chart in my classroom at the moment (to show as an example), however I have upgraded and improved it to attach on TES. A 5 day lesson plan based on instructions. Three of the days are based on children evaluating and creating instructions through video clips and practical activities (making paper airplanes and origami fortune tellers). Two of the days are focused on comprehension and handwriting. The children will be taught how to write successful instructions by understanding that they need to use clear, simple English for their reader to understand clearly what they are directing them to do.

This resource is a simple way of displaying the class helpers of the week. It comes with a title and two minions for printing and laminating stating: This week's minions are:... I laminate them and write a new child on them each week in whiteboard pen, which washes off easy to change for the following week. It's simple, colourful and fun to have in the classroom.

This is a game I play frequently with my class at the end of the multiplication topic/year to check assessment. The picture as the cover image shows the lower ability game. This resource is differentiated for higher abilities and middle abilities. This game works exactly like X's and O's, except children must solve the question within the box of their choice, get the answer correct before they can put an X or an O in. My class absolutely love this game, and the higher ability game provides a great challenge with *missing number multiplication *two-digit multiplication *multiplying decimals. 6 Guided Reading Assessment/Guidance Sheets to use with your younger readers. These sheets can be printed for each child to keep track of their reading abilities/areas needed to improve. How to use this product: Each week, I use a new assessment focus (AF). They are marked as *AF1- decoding of the text. *AF2- retrieving information. *AF3- deducing and inferring information. *AF4- structure and organisation of the text. *AF5- comment on the writer’s use of language. *AF6- to identify the purpose. *AF7- to relate the story to others. Each sheet contains 4-5 ‘I can’ statements in which you can shade in to mark where each child is at in terms of reading. By using one assessment focus per week of guided reading, you can see real progression in the children’s understanding of the particular questions you’re asking. Beside each ‘I can’ statement, I have put a heart shape in which the teacher shades: Green: if the child is secure in that area. Orange: if the child is emerging in that area. Red: if the child is un-secure in that particular area.

This resource is a fun way to encourage children to read the high frequency words in Reception. They will need to be cut out, with the elephant stuck to the back of the word and then laminated. Once they're done once, you'll have them forever. It consists of a selection of the high frequency words at Reception level, with a colourful background to keep them interested. You will need to print two copies of this resource in order to play the game. I played it in groups of 4: *Give each child in the group an even amount of cards. *Instruct them to leave them all in front of them (elephant facing up). *The first child must place their first card down, sound it out/read it. *The next child repeats etc until there is two of the same words placed one after the other. *They all must race to say SNAP if two cards sitting on top of each other are the same word. *The person to say it first, gets all of the cards in the pile and they begin again. This resource can be used as an extension activity for early finishers, or as a revision tool at the end of the year, or even as your weekly game to expose children to these words more frequently.
