On the first slide, in line with the GCSE speaking photo card, pupils give sentences about the picture. This is an introduction to the topic of the advantages and disadvantages of social media. On the following slide, phrases have been taken from a text about social media. Students decide whether the statements are advantages or disadvantages. Students then use mini whiteboards to recap the vocab. To finish, students challenge each other for the next lesson. They all write a phrase from this lesson on a Post-It and stick it to the back wall. These are then randomly given out to the students as a starter in the following lesson to be translated.

Use this PPT to introduce pupils to school uniform and its colours.

Ideal cover lesson. Pupils fill in the timetable in German to begin with. They then draw and label their school uniform in German, using the vocab list to help. They write some opinion words underneath their drawing. To finish, they must write a sentence or two about subjects and their uniform. For example, “Ich finde Deutsch toll und ich finde Mathe langweilig. Ich finde meine Schuluniform cool und schick.”

For example, “Ich finde das Hemd altmodisch.” Use that grid reference to reveal a square by clicking on it. If there’s an exploded battleship underneath, that team gets the point. If not, move over to the other team. There are 5 to find.

Pupils must get 4 in a row to get a point for their team. Click on the relevant colour to make the shape change to that colour. 5 in a row could mean 2 points! This topic is clothes.
