I have been an elementary teacher in UK and in Canada for many years. I absolutely love my career! I have had several educational books published, and have contributed articles to magazines such as Scholastic. I particularly enjoy creating resources for teachers to use in their classroom that utilize methods other than "fill in the blank"! I hope that you will find some helpful resources in my shop.

Family Fun Boxes - for Teachers and Parents

(0)
The goals of this program are to provide an opportunity for parents and children to enjoy books and reading together, and to encourage students to reflect on their experiences through the use of journals. This home - school connection will enable the teacher to use the journal portion of each activity as an evaluation tool for each student, and, during the year, the students will be able to progress through the journal writing stages as they gain confidence. Each Fun Box contains one or more books. Some of the books are at the child’s independent reading level, and others are meant to be read to the child. Children share the Fun Boxes with their families, reading and sharing the books, working on the activities that are part of each Fun Box, and then making an entry in the journal. Fun Boxes answer those requests for “homework”, and also provide a focus for parents who wish to help with their child’s education, but often do not know the best way to accomplish this.
