This assessment starts at Phase 2 and tests through to Phase 6. Teachers just need to point at each sound and word and get children to read each one. If a child gets it right, it can be checked off. Previously, I have created one of these booklets for each child and placed in a folder for TAs to ‘pick up and go’ as interventions or early morning work. Based on the book Beowulf by Rob Lloyd Jones (Usborne), this writing unit has been written by experienced literacy leaders in key stage two. This unit is perfect to accompany an Anglo Saxon topic, but this is not necessary and it can be used alone.
