Fun with Hats: A Data Adventure for Children is a maths resource designed for Key Stage 1 and EYFS children. The resource aims to develop early data handling and sorting skills through fun activities.
The resource includes:
• Three Sets of Colour Picture Cards: Each set contains 18 colour pictures of children wearing different hats. Sets 1A and 1B, Set 2A and 2B, and Set 3A and 3B include the same pictures but are jumbled in different orders, providing multiple opportunities for matching and sorting activities.
• Activity Sheet for Counting and Matching Hats: This sheet allows children to practice counting, sorting, matching and recording.
There are 6 planned Activity ideas which come with objectives, instructions and assessment opportunities.

  1. Hat Matching Game:
    Objective: Develop data handling and sorting skills by matching pictures of children with different hats.
  2. Sorting Hat Game:
    Objective: Practice sorting and categorising skills based on hat colour and type.
  3. Hat Relay Race:
    Objective: Reinforce sorting skills and promote teamwork.
  4. Hat Storytelling:
    Objective: Encourage creativity and language development through storytelling.
  5. Design Your Own Hat:
    Objective: Encourage creativity and artistic expression while reinforcing understanding of different types of hats.
  6. Counting and Matching Hats:
    Objective: Practice counting and matching skills.
