River transport lesson idea with animations

(12)
This is a PGCE year resource which I am not posting as a 'great lesson', however, there are some useful animations and a clear Learning objective you could use. If I remember rightly I used a water tray and rocks, sand etc for kids to 'do' the transportation processes. The starter is a set of anagrams and then a recap of the water cycle using visuals.

My 8 Do's & Don'ts to feel happier in a PGCE year

(7)
In MY opinion, 8 Do's and 8 Don'ts to think about if you're in the middle of or starting a PGCE year...I qualified 4 years ago with a Secondary PGCE and teach alongside aspiring/early career teachers who often ask me for advice. *I am aware that some people have a different perspective and opinions that differ from my own - this is just intended to be food for thought for some* :) If you like it PLEASE COMMENT and rate it!

PLTS posters in 'child speak'

(6)
Personal learning and thinking skills posters. (PLT's) I designed these from scratch becuase I found many of my (SEN - Y7/8/9) pupils found the terms difficult when I included one of them as a focus for a lesson/project. The aim is these will help familiarise them with more useable language and the meaning of each skill. Can be used in any way you like (display, discussion, focus for a week, included in books) I have added the framework from the QCA as a point of reference.

A list of what makes a good teacher and on the second page, what makes a good pupil. Pupils can sort and rank or it can be done with a whole group in discussion. Its versatile and a very good way of establishing a mutual agreement of how to have a classroom environment based on respect.

Creative Writing with ICT & Art - Lesson Idea

(2)
An English lesson plan using a wicked website - which I have provided a basic tutorial of in the upload. . The lesson is to encourage thought and engagement with ideas for a piece of creative writing/short story. Encorporates ICT and Art and 2 of the 6 PLTS themes(it perhaps helps if your pupils are aware of PLTS).

Map symbols Odd one Out worksheet

(5)
This activity is designed to develop reasoning skills and in this case gauge/assess level of understanding or ability to use the OS key - if you need or choose to give your pupils this. Pupils write their choice of Odd one out from the 4 symbols. Underneath they write why they chose it. The point in 'ODD ONE OUT' as a thinking skills activity is that the answer may vary. Having said that, with Map Symbols in particular there can perhaps be a more obvious 'right' answer. I've added easy ideas for extension activities I've used alongside it.

Diamond 9 activity and worksheet

(1)
This activity can be adapted to have many uses. This resource is for my class who have looked at 10 countries in our 'Around the world in 80 days' topic. I am interested in uncovering pre/misconceptions about the countries we are learning about, through this activity. The diamond 9 is particularly good as a basis for debating issues in Citizenship, too.

Personal Learning & Thinking Skills Assessment

An 'evidence wall' for PLTS. A form of AfL, giving pupils some ownership of the PLTS themes we may use in planning. Good for setting personal targets and monitoring progress within the PLTS themes. Can be easily personalised. Matches the posters I&'ve created and uploaded too.

Tracy Beaker themed feelings and emotions lesson

My pupils are mad on Tracy Beaker so I made this to use with them to discuss body language and facial expressions. One or two of the images arent great - I did my best. The images range from obvious, happy, sad, angry...etc. Good starting point for talking about feelings and non verbal communication. Im in the process of finishing an associated worsheet. Favourite this and check back if you think you'd like to use it.
