Children look at the solid state of water, ice, and discuss how it needs to be kept very cold to stay solid. At room temperature it turns back into water. They experiment with a variety of insulating materials and record their results.

Suitable for years 3 and 4.

A detailed lesson plan and a simple worksheet to record results. Would be good to give the experiment a context e.g keeping ice lollies cool on a hot day.
