Learning about what makes a good friend and what makes a bad friend is an important life skill. We are surrounded by people everyday, but the level of friendship varies from person to person. This resource includes over 36 cards which includes key characteristics of both good friends and bad friends. These cards allow students to differentiate between what qualities they themselves would like to cultivate and what qualities they would like to look for in a friend themselves. At the end of the resource are two pages – one which is a box for “Good Friend Qualities” and “Bad Friend Qualities”. Simply cut each card and laminate for longevity. Students will have fun working either individually, in pairs or in groups exploring each of the qualities and characteristics. There are some blank cards included so that students can write their own cards based on their own experiences of what makes a good friend or bad friend. This is a fun, engaging, creative and non-threatening intervention which is great for students to explore emotional regulation, anger management, reflective practice and self care. What to do? 1.Encourage students to explore each of the 24 realistic scenarios on each page and reflect on how that scenario would make them feel. This also encourages empathy, compassion and consideration into the feelings and actions of others as they resonate with each scenario. 2.The next step is for the students to explore the “Anger Management Strategy Ingredients” list and tick what anger management strategy they could or would employ and use for that particular scenario. This helps students to reflect, explore and gain insight into their own feelings and behaviours. 3.Students then put those ingredients into the “blender” which is located on each page to cement the lesson. There are 24 visuals for already developed anger management strategies which students can utilize. There are an addition 12 blank visual cards for students to explore some of their own individual and unique self-care strategies that work for them. 4.Lastly, students can create a name for that particular anger management smoothie. This heightens the learning outcomes and students become more likely to explore and employ these anger management strategies within their everyday life. NOTE – There is a COMPLETED example page so students can see this resource in action!

The activity includes • 1 x illustration of child with open and happy mouth (symbolizing things a child can say) • 1 x illustration of a shocked child with mouth closed (symbolizing things a child shouldn’t say) • Question/Statement cards that children can cut out which contains a comment that either can be pasted on the mouth open (something nice/good/okay/acceptable to say) or pasted on the mouth closed (something you shouldn’t say as its mean/not nice) This activity also includes some spare cards for either the teacher, students (group or individual) to write on as examples of things they feel are appropriate/inappropriate to support the development of insight and judgment. This behavior workbook is specifically designed for teenagers and adolescents and has been developed utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy principles. This workbook primarily focuses on emotions, behaviours, anger management and self-care. Students with anger management difficulties often represent a significant number of referrals for school counselors. They are often referred because they are internalising their anger (depressed, socially withdrawn) or the majority are externalising their anger by demonstrating behavioural concerns. Coping strategies and skills are behavioural reactions that an individual utilizes to cope, deal and adapt with difficult situations. Coping strategies come in many forms – some might be helpful, and some are unhelpful. This resource includes 42 cards which include a variety of helpful and unhelpful coping skills which are included on individual cards. These can be discussed and used to explore and differentiate between what are healthy and helpful coping strategies verses unhelpful and unhealthy coping strategies.
