Bloom's Success Criteria

(0)
Use this resource to set 'I can.....' success criteria for students which match Bloom's heirarchy and traditional measures of attainment. In addition within the lesson use them to increase or build the cognitive challenge of subjsequent or differentiated tasks. I will soon post a few examples to help achieve this measure of outstanding lessons. Follow me on twitter for updates on latest resources: https://twitter.com/boostprogress

Science of Variation - L4+ and BTEC.

(0)
The PPT contains a range of activities for use with either BTEC Applied Science group or KS3 L4+ groups. Resource covers nature, types and causes variation and inheritance examples. There are a range of activities, including fingerprint and eye colour analysis and images for group tasks. Mr Men/Little Miss activity was 'borrowed&' from another TES donor as I liked it so much! Inheritance covers eye colour, tongue rolling and thumbs using punnet squares. Finally the determination of gender and meiosis. As always leave feedback and follow @boostprogress and @CE4ET.

A series of activities for teaching L5+ pupils about Improper Fractions. There is nice progression in the activities for use with lesson observations and worded problems to address literacy requirements. As always please leave feedback and comments and follow @boostprogress.
Mathematics of Coordinates I - L4 First Quadrant
BoostProgressBoostProgress

Mathematics of Coordinates I - L4 First Quadrant

(0)
A first lesson for L4 pupils, possibly even L3+ students, beginning with key terms, comparison of photographs of graphs drawn by three pairs of pupils and then pupils drawing their own first quadrant. Pupils then identify coordinates from the first quadrant and points find points along lines in the first quadrant and an unknown shape. Resource finishes with a game for pupils and they may design their own version as well. Many opportunities for group approaches. As always follow me on twitter @boostprogress and provide feedback comments.

Separation techniques - Alien's Blood

(0)
A series of 2 or 3 lessons that address separation techniques: filtration and paper chromatography. The filtration uses a mixture of sand, iron filings and water and for chromatography you need filter paper chromatography strip and a suitable colors of felt tip or highlighters. There are frames provided for students to record their learning on and a second copy for teachers to complete for peer-assessment. The lesson is ideal for learners between 9-14 years of age in science or classroom settings. Please also complete your own risk assessment, specifically around the solvent for chromatography: in my practical I used ethanol as it dissolves pigments in pens. Alternatively, you could try water for water-soluble pens and inks, if necessary. All images are obtained using creative commons licence or my own images.
Science of Acids and Alkalis - L4+

Science of Acids and Alkalis - L4+

(0)
A series of PPTs that support an introduction to acids and alkalies for KS3. There are a couple of well described practicals testing pH of solutions, simple neutralization and the indigestion tablet practical. There is also a short assessment to finish off the topic at L4+ and L5+. All objectives leveled and linked to SOLO taxonomy. As always follow @boostprogress or @CE4ET and leave feedback.
Mathematics of Symmetry I - L4+

One or two lessons on reflective symmetry covering a range of 2D shapes, including letters, flags and road signs, Progresses to some higher L4 and low L5 tasks on lines of symmetry. As always follow me @boostprogress and leave feedback on the resource.
Science of Mass, Weight and Pressure (L4+)

Science of Mass, Weight and Pressure (L4+)

(0)
These resources for L4+ focus on the changes between states of matter and were supported by a decent video, three practicals of melting ice and Salol and extracting Salt from Rock Salt. There is also a display task at the end. Please do your own risk assessments. These resources are just the basics for building your own lesson plans. As always please leave feedback and follow @boostprogress and @CE4ET.

GCSE Core Science - Food and Health - Biology: Burning Food

GCSE Core Science - Food and Health - Burning Food This resource is one of four lessons and perfect for students of middle to lower abilities at targeting 'C' grades at the end of their course. The focus is on obtaining energy from food and these resources support the basic burning food to heat water practical. There is a good video link and then very strong components to analyse and graph the practical results, developing key How Science Works skills. There are also some differentiated activities and tasks, including a nice energy game. If you have ideas for improving this resource then please let me know.
Numeracy cards
BoostProgressBoostProgress

Numeracy cards

(0)
A cross-curricular numeracy resource. Each card is identified by science, geography or technology as an area of pupil weakness - specifically linked to numeracy/mathematical skills. These cards may be used for information by teachers, displayed in classrooms or pupil exercise books as a learning resource. I am hoping to encourage other teachers to produce a few more and email them back to me. The cards are also part of a whole-school numeracy action plan and the full set of KS3 and 4 will contain 80 cards - plus any emailed to the collection.

Have you ever thought about the cognitive demand of learning tasks? I had a go at putting common tasks into Bloom's taxonomy. This is useful for differentiating tasks within a lesson and across lessons. Please as always let me have feedback on improving this resource.

This is the fourth lesson on the GCE A-level Biology series on 'Inheritance' and as the title suggested covers Dihybrid and Epistatic crosses. Tasks are differentiated at A, C and E standards. All the familiar examples are covered including Mendelian pea characteristics and coat colour. If there are suggestions or amendments to improve this resource then please let me know.

Mathematics of Words V - Speed Formulae

This level 5+ resource can be delivered in maths or science and should take two to three hours to deliver. Ideally the speed section should be combined with some simple practical activity around falling objects (terminal speed) or cars down a slope. The worksheet is also useful for extension. There is an extension section at the end for L6 students to construct formula. Follow me on twitter for updates on latest resources: https://twitter.com/boostprogress

Mathematics of Words VI - Making algebraic Formula

This lesson follows on from the previous one (V) and gets students to put together formula for the perimeters and areas of squares, rectangles and triangles. These are set as a problem-based learning tasks for froup arrpoaches and there is then some extension tasks using the construction cubes. Lots of opportunities for discussions and exploring students thinking. Introduces the idea of proofs as well. Lesson works well for L5+ though could be higher depending on shapes used. There is also an assessment from Kangaroo maths attached. Follow me on twitter @boostprogress
