Multiplying 3 Numbers

(0)
This active, printable KS2 Mental Maths starter activity for multiplication of three factors is a treasure hunt / scavenger hunt or relay type game, to be played in teams, with differentiation built in. It’s ideal as a whole class warm up or plenary at Year 4, Year 5 and 6, perhaps when focusing on multiplication, especially the associative property / law of multiplication. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of three single digit numbers multiplication calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions for teacher and pupils is included, along with solutions. I have a collection of these Grab the Answers games, each one focusing on a different maths concept. You can explore the bundle below. Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards. Please visit my store for many fun, time-saving maths activities: FullShelf Resources

French Telling the Time Quelle heure est-il? BUNDLE

3 Resources
French Time resources for Upper Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (KS2 / KS3). Plan a unit of lessons on Telling the Time in French (L’heure) / Clocks in French (Les Horloges) with this big bundle of reading, writing, speaking and listening activities: vocabulary support pages, differentiated worksheets and puzzles, a detailed lesson presentation, interactive games, flashcards, printable games and activities. Includes 12 AND 24 hour time separately, analogue and digital clocks, in quarter hour and 5 minute intervals. Also includes questions and sentences, linked to sporting activities, opening hours and aspects of daily routine. These French basics resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the previews to see a large sample of the resources. All resources are in PDF, apart from the presentation, which is in PowerPoint / PPT (but also included in PDF). Over 160 pages and 110 slides.   The 3 included resource packs are also available separately.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRESENTATIONS AND INTERACTIVE GAMES:   In addition to introducing key vocabulary and phrases, this presentation includes activities such as: Practice slides with digital and analogue clocks Oral activities using time in context 6 rounds of an interactive Hexagons Game (where teams compete to translate vocab and phrases and make a path through the grid) - includes two rounds where time is to the nearest minute instead of 5 minute intervals, to stretch groups needing more challenge. 16 rounds of an interactive Reveal the Picture Game (where teams compete to remove parts of a grid to reveal the hidden time in the image)   Please note that most of the text in the PowerPoint is editable, however the images are not. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. Please note that the Hexagons and Reveal the Picture games are not compatible with PDF and are therefore omitted from that version.   A PDF file of flashcards / word wall cards for 12-hour time is also included in the Zip file.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME WORKSHEETS AND PUZZLES:   SUPPORT PAGES: Word mats to display or print for students who require it, for 12 and 24-hour time, and in black and white too. Please note that these support pages are also contained in my printable games packet for this topic. WORKSHEETS: 10 worksheets (with answer keys), all in both 12 AND 24-hour versions, and all differentiated at least two ways using a star system. The 1-star version is the least challenging, for lower ability, younger or less experienced students and almost all of these focus on quarter hour intervals. Many of the 2-star worksheets are in five minute intervals. For Worksheet 4, the 1-star version is in five minute intervals and the 2-star is to the nearest minute, to provide variety and extra challenge. The two “À quelle heure…?” worksheets (Les Activités / Le Transport) are differentiated 3 ways. PUZZLES: There’s an airport puzzle, hidden word puzzle, and maze. The airport puzzle is differentiated; the other two are not. The maze also does not have a 24h version.   FRENCH TELLING THE TIME PRINTABLE GAMES:   Four in a Row: There are 4 boards: word version and digital ones for both the 12 and 24-hour clocks. Print and laminate the ones you want for repeated use with dry-wipe markers. Enlarge if using with larger groups. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Dice required. “J’ai…Qui a…?” Loop Game: A speaking game for groups or the whole class. Print and laminate for repeated use. The 36 cards form a continuous loop so it doesn’t matter which one you start with. There are 3 versions – the first has an analog clock, the second has a digital clock, while the third version features French 24-hour time. Active Oral Game: Ideal for the whole class. Print and laminate the cards. Students walk around the room, asking and answering what time it is in French, using the time printed on their cards. The first pair to find the matching cards wins. There are 2 versions: an analog clock version for 12-hour time and a digital one you can use for 24-hour time. Serpents et Echelles Board Game: Print and laminate the board. It works like normal Chutes and Ladders / Snakes and Ladders, only with students calling out French words when they land on them. Answer key included. Sentences Board Game: Fun for oral practice. Board 1 is a simpler, 12-hour digital version, just in quarter hour intervals. Board 2 is for analog 12-hour time in 5 minute intervals and board 3 is for 24-hour time. Print and laminate. Instructions on board. Answer key included. Square Jigsaw: Laminate and cut the 16 puzzle pieces or have students cut up the black and white version. For an extra challenge, the letters on the outside edge of the puzzle form a related sentence. 2 versions, one for 12-hour time and one for 24-hour time. Students match analog clocks or digital times with French word version of time. Counter Throw Time Target Game: Combines math and French! Students throw a counter onto target each round and add elapsed time to their card in a race to finish a 10-step journey in the shortest time. They must read aloud their new time in French at each stage. Black and white target included. Perimeter Game Year 5 / 6

(1)
Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) Y5 and Y6 perimeter games: 10 bingo / lotto game boards and 60 cards are included in this differentiated pack. There are 5 boards and 30 cards in two sets. ALL ANSWERS ARE INCLUDED. PDF format. In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7. Each child or pair has a board with 6 perimeter answers on it. The cards feature 2D shapes with the measurements of some sides marked on, which the children use to work out the perimeter. Children have a board each or per pair. I recommend having one perimeter shape card turned over at a time and all players working out if it matches the perimeter answer on their board. Lower and higher ability versions both contain a variety of squares, rectangles, irregular quadrilaterals and triangles, while the two-star version also features compound shapes. The one-star version has more simple calculations to work out in metres. The two-star version includes decimal numbers and some conversion between centimetres and metres. Answer cards are included for pupil self-checking or to help teachers assess. The cards can also be used separately from the bingo /lotto game, with individuals or pairs working out the perimeter and checking. They could perhaps time themselves to see how many they can correctly answer in 5 or 10 minutes. Or small groups could compete against each other to get the answer first, scoring a point if they manage it. If you don’t need to use both versions at the same time, I recommend printing the boards back to back to save on card and laminating pouches. If using both sets of cards, I suggest printing them on different coloured card to help keep them separate. Times Tables Practice Games KS2

(2)
Fun times tables revision activities! Speed up students’ mental recall with these easy-to-prepare, printable, well-differentiated times tables facts board games. Use as starter activities / warm ups in Key Stage 2 (especially Year 4, 5 and 6 - Y4 / Y5 / Y6) Maths lessons, or early finisher activities, morning starters, or as part of a multiplication unit. There are 24 pages of boards (multiple versions of the same boards for differentiation and eco-printing), together with full instructions for the teacher. Simply choose the pages you want to print and laminate for children to play using dry-wipe / whiteboard pens. In Scotland, use for Second Level Maths, Primary 5, 6 and 7. CONTENTS: Boards 1-4 feature 2 to 9 times tables calculations Boards 5-8 are versions of the first four boards with some 11 and 12 times table calculations added All boards come in colour and black and white versions **Further differentiation: **All 2-9 times table versions come in a differentiated format too, with sidebars added, featuring all answers listed in numerical order. This works really well with lower ability or younger pupils who require a little more support. They can score through the number they have used each time. The boards were originally designed to be printed in A3 size so you may need to quickly adjust your printer settings to print in A4, which works fine too. INSTRUCTIONS: Two children (or two pairs of children) take it in turns to write an answer over a times table question on the board. Ideally they use a different colour whiteboard pen, however if this is not possible they could add an initial or symbol each time too. First to get 4 in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - is the winner. The times tables questions are designed to print in faintish grey (on the black and white versions) or white (on the colour versions) so as not to get in the way of the children’s answers. It works especially well if pupils roll a dice to determine which column they should answer a question from. The columns are numbered 1-6. If the column is already completed, they could either miss a go or roll again. THIS RESOURCE IS AVAILABLE IN SOME GREAT VALUE BUNDLES - PLEASE EXPLORE BELOW. KS2 well-differentiated Four-in-a-Row Game Boards and cards for consolidation of decimal place value understanding and ordering decimal numbers (1, 2 and 3 decimal places). Ideal for starters, warm ups, early finishers activities etc. Originally designed for Key Stage 2 Y5 and Y6 - or Second Level, Primary 6 and 7 in Scotland. PDF format. Full instructions included. Please check the previews to see if it is suitable. SAVE by purchasing this as part of a BUNDLE: Place Value Activities BUNDLE KS2 Maths Games BUNDLE Decimals Activities BUNDLE DECIMAL NUMBERS FOUR IN A ROW: • Two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places) • Two A3 Four in a Row boards. The 1 star version was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. It works especially well in A3, however, you could scale down the board to A4 and use the smaller card set supplied. You could have pairs take on other pairs. Each team of two starts with a set of cards (print each set on different coloured card if you don’t have coloured printing that would allow you to print the different coloured cards supplied, then laminate to use again and again). It works well if each team shuffles their cards, puts them in a pile and takes one from the top at a time, which they then put down on the board if there’s a suitable empty box. They aim to get four of their cards in a row. Each box has a stipulation about the numbers that can be placed on it (no tenths, < 1.5, > 0.31, < 0.56, five hundredths etc). To save printing you could split a set between 2 or 3 boards as a single team won’t require all 54 cards. The cards can also be used separately from the game boards for ordering activities. Calculating Change from Five Pounds Money Games: differentiated, illustrated four-in-a-row boards, each featuring 36 prices in UK currency (sterling) for calculating change from £5, plus a 20-card loop card / dominoes set. Printable games for starters, early finishers activities, revision etc. FOUR IN A ROW A fun, strategic activity for consolidating this key money / financial / shopping skill. Ideal for maths lessons or Money Week skills practice. Originally designed for Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 (Y3 / Y4 / Y5 / Y6) but might suit others. In Scotland, it’s for Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7. Includes: 2 PDF files 2 standard game boards (featuring different items and prices from each other) 2 lower ability boards (same as above but less challenging calculations) Answer grids for at-a-glance checking by students or teacher Teacher notes Laminate and use again and again. Children work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get 4 correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. It works especially well if they roll a dice to find which column they must pick a calculation from (columns numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in a column, skip a go or roll again. Imagining that they pay for each item with £5, pupils use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record on the board the change due for each of their transactions or add an initial or symbol if both teams are using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but A4 is okay too. The LA versions have a star next to the title. Print on different coloured card or paper if required. LOOP GAME / FOLLOW ME CARDS / DOMINOES A 20-card set that can start with any card. A child reads the ‘I spend’ part first as they make their ‘purchase’ with others working out if they have the relevant ‘I give you’. Use as a game for groups or as a whole class starter or plenary (in pairs if necessary). LA pupils could be given less challenging cards so they can still experience success. Some of the puzzles were designed for Year 3 and 4 but these are likely to suit some learners in Year 5 and 6 requiring a simpler level of challenge. On the other hand, the Year 5 / 6 puzzles could provide challenge for more able learners in lower year groups. Full instructions and answer keys included. Click on the links to see more detailed information and previews, or to purchase separately: Christmas Maths Puzzles Christmas Literacy (SPaG) Puzzles CHRISTMAS MATHS PUZZLES: There are 3 Set A Numeracy puzzles that best suit Year 6 and 5 (P7 and P6) and 3 Set B puzzles originally designed for Year 4 (P5) - and Year 3 (P4) if all concepts have been covered. Both sets could be used in the same class for differentiation if required. Set A might also suit some early KS3 classes. They work well at the busy end of term as little preparation is required and they are very flexible and can be left aside and picked up again as required. An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these Hidden Word / Spot the Mistakes puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher or homework activities for this special time of year. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a Christmas-related word is revealed after completing mental arithmetic calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Pupils circle any boxes containing mistakes. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the Christmas word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Negative Numbers, Fractions, Percentages and Decimals (Not all concepts feature in Set B). LITERACY (EDITING / PROOFREADING PUZZLES: KS2 Christmas Editing / Proofreading puzzles. Minimal preparation required (ideal for busy end of term), these 6 fun Literacy / English puzzle worksheets provide practice of a range of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) during late November and December. 3 puzzles were originally designed for Year 6 and 5 (P7 and P6) and 3 simpler ones for Year 3 and 4 (P4 and P5). Both sets could be used in the same class for differentiation if required. They could also be used for revision in early KS3. Versions are included with and without a festive background picture. All sentences are Christmas-themed. These puzzles work in a similar way to the maths ones above, a Christmas-related word being revealed after completing the editing work. Each puzzle contains 20 lines of text (or 15 in the simpler ones). Pupils circle any mistakes they spot. If there are 3 or more mistakes in a single line, they highlight the corresponding letter in the grid at the bottom of the page. At the end they rearrange the highlighted letters to reveal the Christmas word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups, with pupils supporting each other and pooling their editing / proofreading skills. Pupils often forget or avoid re-reading their own work to check for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves. Some of the aspects of SPaG included: common spelling errors, full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas, colons, speech marks, proper nouns, missing words, repeated words, tenses, subordinate clauses and embedded clauses. (Not all concepts feature in the 3 simpler puzzles (Puzzles 4-6). You might also be interested in my general set of Editing / Proofreading Puzzles for Year 5 and 6. Fractions of Amounts Games BUNDLE

2 Resources
A bundle of Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) activities for finding Fractions of Quantities: differentiated Four in a Row Games and Active Card Game. Also known as Fractions of a Set / of a Group / of Whole Numbers etc. Originally made for Year 5 and Year 6. Great for lesson starters, early finishers tasks and revision. Includes: 6 Four-in-a-Row Games (3 levels, 2 of each) 54 Card Printable Team Treasure Hunt (Differentiated) Answer keys included. Please check the individual resource pages and previews to see if the calculations provide an appropriate range of challenge for your students. These activities were made for revision and consolidation in Year 5 and 6 but might suit other years too. You can also purchase these 2 resources as part of my bigger Fractions Activities BUNDLE, along with Hidden Word Puzzles Worksheets for a variety of Fractions concepts. If you prefer, you can also purchase the Fractions Puzzles Worksheets as part of my Fractions, Decimals and Percentages BUNDLE MORE INFORMATION - FOUR IN A ROW: Print and laminate the Four in a Row boards for regular use. The boards were originally designed in A3 to work especially well with larger groups but you can scale it down to print in A4 if required or preferred. There are 6 game boards, two for each level of challenge, indicated with a star system, with one star being the least challenging. The one star version includes only unit fractions of small numbers. The two star version includes fractions of larger two-digit numbers, while the three star version progresses to fractions of three and four-digit numbers. Students work strategically as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a dice each time to decide from which column to pick a calculation (the columns are numbered 1-6). Students write their answers on the board with a dry-wipe marker. MORE INFORMATION - TREASURE HUNT: This can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of fractions calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included. Place Value Games

Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths dice games for place value up to millions and decimals to 3 places. Includes games for 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions) and 1, 2 and 3 decimal places (tenths, hundredths and thousandths). A fun, more challenging and strategic twist on an old idea, these 19 games will make students think carefully about where to place digits, practise their ordering skills, develop interesting tactics and prolong the uncertainty until the final moments. 24 pages, PDF format. Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as a fun homework task Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups. There is a mixture of Make the Biggest Number, Make the Smallest Number and Greater or Less Than games   Every turn, players can place the digit they throw on any row or column, until there are no vacant boxes remaining, prolonging the uncertainty! Keeping an eye on each other’s numbers as they form, players will begin to spot new tactics; for instance they might notice that a 1 placed in a thousands place might not be so costly if there’s a 9 in the ten thousands place, depending on what their opponent is doing on their grid. They can also practise saying their completed numbers aloud at the end.   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice, the games still work with a 1-6 dice. Alternatively: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)   Instructions are printed on the boards.   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Multiplication and Division Activities BUNDLE Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources
