Multiplying 3 Numbers

(0)
This active, printable KS2 Mental Maths starter activity for multiplication of three factors is a treasure hunt / scavenger hunt or relay type game, to be played in teams, with differentiation built in. It’s ideal as a whole class warm up or plenary at Year 4, Year 5 and 6, perhaps when focusing on multiplication, especially the associative property / law of multiplication. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of three single digit numbers multiplication calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions for teacher and pupils is included, along with solutions. I have a collection of these Grab the Answers games, each one focusing on a different maths concept. You can explore the bundle below. Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards. Please visit my store for many fun, time-saving maths activities: FullShelf Resources

Over 100 slides, including interactive vocabulary games, plus a PDF file of flash cards for the 18 key classroom words that are taught in the presentation. Includes 18 key classroom words.   My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in: Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6) Secondary (Key Stage 3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8) Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada May suit others, depending on experience   The Powerpoint includes teaching points about gender / plurals of French nouns and the difference between using un / une / des , le / la / les and mon / ma / mes. It teaches children how to answer questions such as 'Qu’est-ce que c’est? (What it it?) and ‘Tu as une gomme / un crayon?’ (Do you have an eraser / pencil? etc). Includes words for door, window, chair, other furniture as well as pencil-case / schoolbag / stationery / school supplies items ( dans ma trousse / dans mon sac / mes affaires). Due to differences between UK and US terms for some of these words, I have included 2 versions to cater for both. Please note the previews show the UK versions. After the vocabulary has been introduced and key teaching points explained, further slides test the students’ vocabulary before the answer appears on the click of the mouse. There are tasks for students to understand and talk about what is in pencil cases and bags. Also, two interactive games are included. Un Jeu de Kim (Kim’s Game) is a memory game and works well with groups competing to be the first to write the correct French word on their whiteboard for the object that is missing. ‘Frappez les Objets’ is a ‘Splat’ game, where a small group competes to hit or point at the correct picture when the teacher says the French object. A non-interactive PDF version of the PowerPoint is also included in case you don’t have PowerPoint. In most cases where terms differ between UK English and US English, both terms have been included. Place Value Games

Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 maths dice games for place value up to millions and decimals to 3 places. Includes games for 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions) and 1, 2 and 3 decimal places (tenths, hundredths and thousandths). A fun, more challenging and strategic twist on an old idea, these 19 games will make students think carefully about where to place digits, practise their ordering skills, develop interesting tactics and prolong the uncertainty until the final moments. 24 pages, PDF format. Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as a fun homework task Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups. There is a mixture of Make the Biggest Number, Make the Smallest Number and Greater or Less Than games   Every turn, players can place the digit they throw on any row or column, until there are no vacant boxes remaining, prolonging the uncertainty! Keeping an eye on each other’s numbers as they form, players will begin to spot new tactics; for instance they might notice that a 1 placed in a thousands place might not be so costly if there’s a 9 in the ten thousands place, depending on what their opponent is doing on their grid. They can also practise saying their completed numbers aloud at the end.   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice, the games still work with a 1-6 dice. Alternatively: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn)   Instructions are printed on the boards.   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Multiplication and Division Activities BUNDLE Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources

German Greetings and Introductions Presentation

Ideal for KS2 or early KS3 or equivalents, this lesson presentation covers German Greetings (Die Begrüßungen auf Deutsch) and Introductions Beginners Vocabulary. Introduce and review this unit with a 116-slide interactive PowerPoint (and additional PDF version). Includes greetings such as Guten Tag (Hello) and Guten Abend (Good evening) and farewells such as Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye) and Bis bald (See you soon). Students will learn responses to questions such as Wie geht’s? (How are you?), Wie heißt du? (What’s your name?), Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?), and Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?). Almost all text in this presentation is editable. Most slides feature answers that appear on the the click of a mouse. Recapping slides and role-play slides (with answer keys) are also included for plenty of oral practice and there’s a fun interactive Hexagons review game at the end. There’s enough here to plan multiple lessons around. In the Zip file, there is the original PowerPoint and a PDF version. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still enable you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. The Hexagons game is not compatible with PDF. Slides about where you live and where you come from focus on examples about Germany and other German-speaking countries, together with English-speaking countries such as US, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. This presentation is suitable for teaching younger or older students and adults as you have all the slides and examples you need to teach using either the informal ‘du’ or formal ‘Sie’ for ‘you’. It begins by using the informal ‘du’, which is ideal for younger students but at the end of the presentation (from slide 117), there are additional versions of relevant slides, the role-plays and the hexagon game, all using the formal ‘Sie’. You can either use the presentation all the way through, teaching both ‘du’ and ‘Sie’ or stop at slide 116 (especially if teaching younger students). Decimal Numbers to 1 Decimal Place Numeracy treasure hunt / scavenger hunt activity: an active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary at KS2 (originally designed for Year 5 and 6), especially when focusing on addition and subtraction of decimals or place value to tenths / one decimal place. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability pupils in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions. **SAVE as part of a BUNDLE: Decimals Numbers Activities KS2 Maths Treasure Hunts Pupils collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. A possible answer for each is printed on the solution cards. Robert Burns Reading Comprehension

25th January is Burns Night when people all over the world with Scottish connections attend a Burns Supper. Celebrate the life and poems of Scotland’s national Bard this January - or at any other time of the year - with these differentiated non-fiction / informational text reading passages with comprehension questions, a cloze procedure task, discussion writing prompt card and a crossword puzzle. They were designed for upper Primary (Upper KS2 - Years 5 and 6 and equivalents) or early Secondary (KS3 - Year 7). These close reading tasks and other activities are in an 18-page PDF. A US version with minor spelling changes is also included in the Zip file.   Also available in this January Reading Comprehensions BUNDLE.   Please check the preview to assess suitability. The non fiction comprehension and cloze task are provided at two levels of challenge, therefore they will suit a range of year groups and provide appropriate levels of challenge for different abilities within many classes.   Famous Scottish poet Robert Burns (often known as Rabbie Burns) was born on January 25 1759 and became one of the world’s best known writers. On Burns Night, his life and achievements are celebrated in Scotland and all over the world, especially in countries where many Scots have emigrated, such as Canada.   I am designing these non-fiction comprehension and activities packs to provide a time-saving bank of flexible themed tasks linked to dates throughout the year, though of course you can use them whenever you want. They feature very short texts (about 250 - 300 words). Each provides comprehension questions, a cloze procedure task and other linked tasks. The other tasks are on aspects of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, writing or reading (this varies across the different packs). Build all activities into your Literacy / English programme, or use for cover lessons, homework, early finisher tasks or for those busy times when you need something low-prep, meaningful, relevant and engaging at the last minute!   CONTENTS: Reading passage (2 levels of difficulty) Cloze procedure task (2 levels) – using same passage Comprehension questions (2 levels) – using same passage Discussion writing prompt card (with and without background color) - this will help students to write a balanced argument about whether Burns is the greatest Scot ever. Students could carry out research to expand on the arguments and explore further points, if you want them to write a more detailed piece. Burns Supper crossword puzzle (research task) - the text provides some answers but this will require internet access to search for most answers (unless they have done a Burns study) Full answer keys Teacher notes YOU MIGHT LIKE: Scotland Crossword
