It follows Cambridge syllabus (0610) and Cambridge IGCSE endorsed book by Jones and Jones Third edition but it is easily adaptable to others. The topic is divided in 5 parts: Introduction Diffusion. Osmosis Active transport End of unit questions. Progress check: some slides contain revision activities for the different parts of the topic, some are based on the textbook. The slides have been prepared in power point. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. The power point is very easy to navigate for students to be able to used it for revision. A pdf is included with a worksheet for students to prepare a Venn diagram for the 3 mechanisms of transport. Everything you need to deliver a whole unit of plants for Year 8. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7, 9 and for an online learning approach. The topic is divided in 7 parts: Photosynthesis: lesson + mini plenary based on an exit ticket. Leaves: lesson + mini plenary based on an activity to boost the students’ memory with a label exercise. Two investigations that can be followed without lab practical so that it can also be easily done in online learning. Roots: lesson + 3 self-assessment questions Transport of water and minerals: lesson End of unit questions Revision: 20 minutes of revision activities + slides for students to check the right answers. It can be used as revision or assessment. Several slides contain notes with suggestions for the lessons such as starters, links with other topics or opportunities for differentiation. Coincides with Cambridge Checkpoint textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW. There are two documents with the relevant images for printing and a target list for students to revise. All pictures have been sourced from the creative commons website. This power point presentation follows the 9700 AS Biology Syllabus by CIE and the endorsed book by Jones, Fosbery, Taylor and Gregory (5th edition). The slides cover all the theoretical content for transport in plants and I currently use them with my year 12 group. Slides include: Brief explanation of transport needs and vascular system in plants. Plan diagrams practice of leaves, stems and roots and adding labels. (also included in the activities’ power point) Mechanism for water transport: cohesion-tension and mass flow Mechanism for assimilates transport: active loading in phloem Final slides: include 4 past paper multiple choice questions with answers.

Everything you need to deliver seven plant practical activities. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7, 8 and 9. Some would also be suitable in year 10. The slides for each activity include the apparatus needed, method, results and conclusion. They can also be performed as demonstrations and most of them can be used in distance learning. What happens to plants in the absence of light? – This practical can be done in the lab or sent to do it at home in a distance learning approach as little material is needed. It can also be shown as a demonstration. Leaves under the microscope Roots for food: web exploring activity that can be easily performed in distance learning. Seeds feeling gravity: lab activity although it is simple enough to be performed in distance learning. Transport of water in celery: 2 lab activities included. It could be performed at home with food colouring. Investigating different colours of light in photosynthesis – theoretically. Can be done in distance learning. All the information given for student to work out on their own the apparatus, risks, results and conclusion. Check the slides’ notes for some extra info about the activity.
