Fully planned 6 week Earthquake topic suitable for Key Stage 2 Geography. All resources, including a medium term plan, worksheets, experiment instructions and SMART notebook are included and all are fully editable. The lessons cover what earthquakes are; how they occur; what the Richter scale is; the effects of an earthquake and how earthquakes cause other physical processes such as tsunamis. There are a range of activities to consolidate the children’s learning and engage them in the topic, from creating an earthquake survival guide to designing an earthquake-proof building.

Questions that can be used as early morning work, class discussion starters, circle time questions to promote effective communication, thinking through ideas, explaining ideas to others and reasoning. These questions are great to have on the board as the children come into class first thing in the morning or after lunch to settle them down and give them something constructive to discuss in class. They support children who may not be very confident, to communicate their ideas to a partner or the class, without worrying about getting the answer right, as there are no right of wrong answers, they are all just personal opinions.
