Festive Feast for a Budget of...

(5)
A very simple scrapbook style resource for the children to cut and paste items from a supermarket Christmas magazine to create a menu on a budget. There is space on the cover for final calculations to be tallied and space for a starter page, a main page and a dessert page. I kindly ask in Lidl or Aldi to have enough booklets for one between two and then the children can work in pairs with varying budgets from 20 to 100 pounds. If you can, share examples of your learners work on twitter @InTechnicolour or Instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour Thanks, Nicholas

Lyric Analysis - Muppet Christmas Carol

(5)
Using two songs from The Muppet Christmas Carol, you can analyse the change in Scrooge from before and after his visits from the ghosts. Firstly watching and exploring the song ‘Scrooge’ you can ask the children to highlight and analyse lyrics that stand out to them. Secondly you will then use the song ‘Thankful Heart’ and do the same. This can be displayed in a jotter or on a poster with a visualisation of Scrooge looking grim and miserable on one side and enlightened on the other. For an example of the jotter layout, check instagram for a reel showing more. As ever, I would love to see how your learners have used this resource so if possible, please tag me on instagram @TeachingInTechnicolour or twitter @InTechnicolour.

How Far I'll Go - Lyric Analysis

(3)
Lyric Analysis sheet for the song ‘How Far I’ll Go’ by Auli’i Cravalho from the Disney film Moana. The first sheet is about highlighting and analysing the lyrics with space to make notes. This can be used to think about the year ahead, goal setting or the concept and emotions of curiosity and exploration. The second sheet is then to set targets, expectations, goals or hopes for the year ahead. The image in the first resource does not belong to me and credit must be given to Disney but was found through a Google search of free images. The image in the second resource was sourced through VectorStock Images.

The Grinch's Heart

(3)
A resource designed for inward reflection around Christmas time. To look beyond the materialistic aspects of Christmas and find what makes our own heart grow, just as The Grinch’s had. Christmas can be overwhelming for many adults and children and focusing on the things that make us happy, content and loved during these times can be helpful. A word mat is provided as a guide to support those in sentence creation. Adapted this year (2022) to include the idea of thinking about parts of our bonnie wee Scotland that makes our hearts grow, to be used as Christmas cards for those newly settled in Scotland.

In Flanders Fields - Blackout Poetry

(2)
Blackout Poetry for Remembrance of the Poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae Poem has been repeated multiple times within the document so there is plenty of options to select words that stand out to you. Advice taking from Twinkl on how to complete a blackout poem: Scan the page for a word that stands out to you and has significance or meaning to you. Now reread the whole page and look out for any words that could link with the first word you chose. Lightly circle with pencil any words that stand out to you. Try to avoid circling more than three words in a row. List all of the words that you have circled on a separate piece of paper. Write them in the order that they appear on the book page. Read through all of the words that you have selected and choose the final words that you would like to use in your poem. Black out any unwanted words with a black pen. Add any illustrations or pictures you would like to go with your poem. Again, use a black pen.
