Traditional Tales bingo game

This game has been designed as a starting point to generate discussion about the characteristics abd similarities of/differences between traditional tales characters. It's been designed with three levels of challenge, with one pictorial version and two text versions. Ideal for an interactive and engaging starter activity in literacy lessons, or as part of continous provision.
Chicken Licken descriptive writing

Chicken Licken descriptive writing

(1)
Weeky plan for simple descriptive writing based around Chicken Licken. This would probably be better suited to earlier on in the year as the model text and outcomes are very simple. In my plan I have tried to put a a big emphasis on orally composing and practising basic sentences in line with the new curriculum. By the way, apologies for the fact that it is written in a black box! I can't seem to fix that.

Interactive Phonics 'Alien or Astronaut' game

This is a good activity to have out all the time in Key stage 1, whether on a spare bit of wall, on the back of a door etc. Laminate the pictures. Make multiple copies of the yellow circle as these will be asteroids. On the asteroids, write real and nonsense words which the children have to blu-tac to the alien or astronaut accordingly. It's a good idea to have a couple of these games out as a useful extension activity for guided reading/literacy if a group finishes early.

Decodable book for Phase 2/3 book

Simple home-made book I made for Year 1 during their first full week back at school to get them used to sounding out + blending words. The pictures are all the same to stop the children from guessing or using picture clues and get them to rely on phonemic strategies. The children will draw their own pictures as an extension activity. I intend to make some more of these books over the forthcoming weeks.
