Pupils have to pretend one of them is a child, and one is parent. The child has to persuade their parents to let them to go to a party. Its tests persuasive techniques, whilst being a fun and interesting starter.

Pupils have a worksheet which includes paragraph hints and sentence starters. Pupils have to complete the diary task, imagining they are part of Francis's platoon from the chapter 3 description in his nightmare.

Can be given to pupils, or used by teachers as a resource. Table gives a definition for - proper noun, abstract noun, concrete noun, collective noun, verb, adverb, adjective, pronoun, proposition & conjunction. Includes examples.

Pupils have to connect the quote to the analysis/inference. There is a box for pupils to add their own quote and inference sentence.

The video is a news clip about a man sentenced to 12 months in prison for drawing graffiti on a moving train. Pupils have to watch the clip and answer the video on whether they agree with the sentence or not. Great conversation starter for the GCSE Oracy

Pupils are able to research their hero, and use the directed questioning to help them guide their research. Pupils are allowed to pick fictional or non-fictional characters and must explain why they are their heroes.

Pupils have to match the characters/celebrities to the ID card - which contains lots of clues! Pupils then have to answer questions about how they used their detective skills to match the cards. Great resource, fantastic starter!

Pupils have to pick the best quotes from a selection provided, and explain what they tell us about Crooks. Great low level refresher.

This lesson is for KS4, focusing on answering a GCSE mock question (on PowerPoint). It helps pupils to understand the difference between formal and informal language. Includes example blog post & table worksheet. Tried and tested, helped low level GCSE pupils alot.

WHOLE LESSON - 3 TASKS INCLUDED EXTENDED WRITING (LETTER) Pupils have to read the article on a boy who has been nominated for the “local hero award” and they have to decide whether they believe he should win. It will challenge the concepts on what a hero is and who deserves a hero award.

ks2/3 - pupils have to search for the information online and complete their fact file. I do not own the pictures! All found online and any credit has not been cropped.

Pupils have to select 7 quotes out of the 10 provided, and explain what they tell us about Lennie. Great revision/refresher task!
