I made a booklet to help the children plan a trip to the beach but it can be changed to fit other trips. The children need to collect data about things that the class could do on the trip and record it in a tally chart and block graph.

There are 2 types of assessment in this resource. The first one is a list of the year 1 common exception words. When using this type of assessment I usually print one off for each child and highlight in one colour all of the words that they can read at the start of the year. I then assess again and use a different coloured highlighter to show progress. The second resource is a copy of the sight words with the option to record the date when a student can read them. This resource contains 5 worksheets to support reading and spelling the 45 year 1 common exception words. Each worksheet has 9 words to practise and asks pupils to trace the word, copy it, rainbow write it then cover it over and write it. There are 6 different word searches with all of the year 2 common exception words. Each word search has 10 or 11 words for the children to find. My class enjoyed finding the words and was good as a early finisher activity.

These flashcards can be printed off and laminated and displayed around the classroom or for the children to be able to practise reading the words quickly. The flashcards have a coloured border with a white background so that they are easy to see.

Year 2 planning for the number and place value and addition and subtraction units following the White Rose Hub scheme of work. I also used the twinkl assessments for pre and post assessment last year however would recommend the Good Stuff primary pre and post assessment tests instead to give a clearer picture of progression throughout the unit.
