Combustion - Very Simple Worksheet

Properties of Solids, Liquids and Gases

A table for year 7 pupils to fill out on the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Under the title of the state of matter, the box is there for pupils to draw a particle diagram of the solids, liquid or gas. The worksheet is designed to be filled out and discussed as a whole class activity, and then pupils use this to classify substances which are typically difficult to classify. E.g custard, jelly, sand etc.

Chromatography of Ink - Simple practical worksheet

(26)
A simple method for pupils to follow - designed for high ability year 8 group, but the images would allow for differentiation for lower ability groups. I have designed the worksheet just to give the simple method which will be used by pupils to determine which pen was used to write a 'mystery note'.

Differentiated Task - Sedimentary Rock/Fossils

(28)
Formation of Sedimentary Rock and Fossils (fossilisation) - differentiated storyboarding task. Designed for year 7/8, could be used to recap with year 9. A really nice task to do as a Core, Challenge, Super-Challenge where pupils choose their own level, or different bits can be used with different ability classes. Please rate & comment as appropriate.

Lab safety lesson - with rules/expectations

(19)
Designed to be a first lesson with a year 7 class. I ran through all expectations and the 'five Bs'. I printed out a small copy (4 per a4 page) of the five Bs for them to glue on the inside cover of their books. I demonstrated hydrogen balloons to get them engaged and interested then asked them to answer safety questions. I then introduced the science safety passport. Students worked through the points in the passport, ticking them off (as a circus of activities). Please rate & comment as appropriate.

Dissolved Gases - Practical Sheet

(2)
Designed for a year 9 mid to low ability group as an introduction to acid rain and how gases can be dissolved in rain. Could also be adapted for a year 7/8 group as an introduction/recap on pH. Please rate & comment as appropriate.
