A Study of Welsh Art (Celts and Sir Kyffin Williams)

(0)
Welsh themed art project for St David's day celebrations or anytime of year. A detailed introduction with ideas for use, a work/evidence booklet for pupils and two PowerPoint presentations which can be used with key stage 2 pupils. The booklet can be used as a whole or divided and used as needed. It has a section on Celtic art, culminating in pupils making their own Celtic knot out of clay, and pages covering the art of Sir Kyffin Williams and some landscape painting approaches. Pupils are then able to create their own Welsh landscape work. The two presentations provide background information on both subjects and plenty of visual examples and inspiration. This has been created with all Key Stage 2 ages in mind but younger pupils (years 3 and 4) will need some teacher guidance, modelling of activities and explanations. Year 5 and 6 pupils will be able to work through many of the tasks completely independently. The booklet can be completed over a few lessons or made to last much longer depending on how much detail or independent research and practise you want to dedicate to each task. Skills covered include learning about a famous artist and historic/traditional art, planning, creating and evaluating own work, mixing paints, creating effects using different lines and colour, working with clay, carrying out own research and sharing own views about art works. The first half of this booklet and one of the PowerPoint presentations could also be used for work on the Celts and their art.

Olympic 2D Shape ChallengeQuick View

Olympic 2D Shape Challenge

(0)
A lesson that involves using basic 2D shapes to create Olympic pictures. This activity is differentiated by outcome so is easily suited to a range of abilities, but is most suitable for Year2-Year4 pupils to introduce/reinforce 2D shape knowledge. Pupils will be required to identify basic 2D shapes and recognise the properties of these. It can be used at any point, as an introduction to 2D shapes, to reinforce knowledge or as a useful assessment activity. This lesson is designed to be fairly flexible and can be adapted quite easily for independent or paired work, or even group work on a larger scale. Work produced can also be recorded in books, on a separate worksheet or makes a very eye-catching class display. Also great as an SEN activity as the work created and images used can be very high contrast and bold and this is an enjoyable, creative, shape activity that encourages a lot of shape vocabulary and discussion. The lesson file includes; Introduction - with advice and instructions for carrying out the activity, based on my experience of this lesson. Powerpoint – the powerpoint presentation with examples of more complex Olympic shape pictures and suggestions for sports to recreate. Step-by-step instructions for the pupil. A slide for recording information if the pupil is doing this in their books rather than using the worksheet provided. And an extension activity. Worksheet – A worksheet that can be stuck in books or used as part of a class display. Template resource sheet – pupils need access to accurately drawn shapes. This sheet has images to print and cut-out for templates. If you already have shape templates to draw around they can be used. If different shapes are needed or different sizes pupils will have to create their own template for these. A bonus set of images for an Olympic display that can be enlarged as needed and printed.

Reflection Pack - live a happier and kinder life!

(0)
This pack contains some of the activities I have used in class over the years, either as one-off lessons, discussions, extension activities or as on-going independent tasks. It contains a range of PSHE-type activities and basically can be used in any classroom to help your pupils consider how they treat others and how they develop their own skills for dealing with situations. Some of the activities can be as quick as 5 minutes done daily for maximum effect. I find they help with class discussions and provide pupils with opportunities to reflect on themselves and their day-to-day. The pack includes questions for reflection, a power point to encourage discussion on how what we say affects others, a basic template for a '100 days of happiness' record, printable table for a class goal, worksheets and tasks for how to deal with problems and how to make someone happy.
