Great practical activity that can be adapted easily for use in any playground. Metre sticks or trundle wheels needed. Or any measuring tool such as lengths of string. Students work in groups to measure selected sections of their playground. Can also then identify their own lengths to measure. Groups will also need to convert between units of measurement. Other extensions can be included such as working out the total lengths measured and finding the differences between lengths measured. Can also make links to area/perimeter, angles, scale drawing etc.

A very clever way into the finding of percentages of different totals. Follow the instructions and develop your own progress. A very adaptable resource, suitable for most of Key Stage Two. Easy to extend and great for independent activities, once students understand the process.

Fun, practical activity creating potions. Various capacity containers needed, as well as some drops of food colouring. Students will need to following instructions and measure accurately. They'll also need to work in groups, assign roles and think creatively. A great lesson that can be extended to take up an entire morning if needed. Amounts can be edited or deleted to differentiate, although mixed ability groups works best. You could also carry out an addition/subtraction task to discover which potion contains the most/least liquid etc.

The Snowman - a festive and fun activity which gets the pupils enthused and helps them to think creatively. Practical drama activity can be carried out from this prior to the written task. differentiated three ways. Post it notes and sugar paper useful for this.

Kandinsky activity. Great activity to get pupils drawing and measuring angles. Rulers, protractors and compasses all suitable for for this task. Some great visual displays can be created as a result.
