Lessons look at different elements of reading fiction before focusing on 'The Monkey&'s Paw&'; and then 'The Raven&'. The SOW was completed with a high ability YR9 set but could be used and adapted for KS3 and KS4. SOW ends with a reading assessment, writing an essay on &';The Raven' - essay has been planned and a PEEL paragraph modeled in the last lessons. There is the option to watch Woman in Black at the end of the SOW with worksheets to accompany, focusing students on the Gothic elements of the film.

This scheme of work covers 13 lessons in which students read the first 5 chapters of Th Hunger Games. The SOW was completed with a high ability YR7 group but could be used and adapted with other KS3 year groups. The SOW focuses on RAF 2,3 and 5 but is more creative towards the end. There is an additional 'Become a Game Maker&' lesson uploaded which is good for challenging the more able and encouraging independent learning.

The activity was completed over three hours with a high ability YR7 class. Students worked in mixed ability groups (with the lead game maker as the G&T student) to design their own arena, mutation and descriptive piece before presenting to the rest of the class. Good for challenging the more able and promoting independent learning. Students really enjoyed this lesson. I have a 13 lesson SOW on the first five chapters of the Hunger Games also uploaded on TES.

Students discuss what makes a community before inventing their own village. Students then assume their village character (I completed a 'Village Directory&' with students name, their character name and their job/ role within the village to stick into books which worked well). All non-fiction tasks are completed in character. For example, an autobiography, an article for the village newspaper, a persuasive speech, a formal letter of complaint. SOW includes differentiated writing frames and all worksheets/ resources to accompany lessons.
