Students really enjoyed this connective / conjunction powerpoint. The starter activity requires students to create their own random paragraph beginning with the connectives provided. They can either write their responses on a whiteboard and then show, or alternatively, which my students seem to enjoy more, the teacher writes their responses on the main whiteboard. My students tried to be as random as possible!
Focuses on how how connectives / conjunctions can be used to join two main clauses, or begin a sentence. Examples of the different types of connective/conjunction are displayed - their task is to remember them all!
Suitable for lower ability students, this lesson focuses on one of the techniques used by Priestley and how it helps to characterise Mr Birling.
This lesson also focuses on using an evaluative PETER response (a support page is provided with sentence stems).
Simply print the learning journey and place in exercise books which works alongside the powerpoint.
A copy of the play is required for this whole lesson.
Introducing simple and compound sentences, this powerpoint is the first of a small unit of powerpoints which focus upon the basic literacy skills in writing. My students over the years have loved this lesson. A great one to store away.
This powerpoint is ideal for students who may be in intervention groups or are lower ability and need to consolidate main/subordinate clauses and simple/compound sentences.
For the connection/starter activity this powerpoint asks for students to use their own mobile devices or voice recorders. Also, make this powerpoint more fun by adding buzzers or bells for the quiz.

A very handy pack of dice for quick activities. Simply print,cut out, laminate and then glue together (or use double sided tape instead). These dice are great resources for intervention groups or those students with lower ability
This pack includes a printable:
* image dice
* conjunctions/connective dice
* prepositions dice
* adverbs dice
* adjectives (ambitious) dice
* blank dice
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE RESOURCES ARE PRINTED ON WHITE PAPER AND NOT COLOURED - THIS IS JUST FOR ILLUSTRATION PURPOSES).
We use these to check student's understanding and progression throughout the lesson. For instance, for sentence work we use the image dice: students roll the dice and whatever image is displayed they have to write either a simple, compound or complex sentence. If students write on their whiteboards, their responses can be peer/teacher assessed effectively.
