Art Unit 4c QCA Journeys

(35)
Journeys, Unit 4c QCA, a painting project. I start by looking at traditional aboriginal art and symbolism. We looked and compared the work of Paul Klee and talked about whether art can be read like music and words. We then looked at ordinance survey maps and reading signs, we thought of shared and common signs compared to unique and personal signs. We made a series of sketches marking a familiar journey we take. The children then had various activities to portray their journeys in a variety of ways. I finished by looking at the modern aboriginal artist Emily Kngwarreye (ne-warry-eye). Younger children love her work because she became famous at 80 and spent her millions on cars! We took her two main styles, dotty and rainbow and applied her painting style to our own work. We added symbols in our work to reflect our journey. It is a fun project. Topics also available: still life.

Unit 6a Art in Motion

(11)
In this unit, we looked at the work of Eadweard Muybridge, then using Lomo cameras (see lomographic society www.lomography.com ) we took photographs of our selves in motion. The lomos are good because they have 4 lenses to capture movement. Lomos capture movement like the work of Muybridge. We then used digital copies of our photographs and manipulated them in the ICT lab. After that we made studies from the photographs capturing movement, referring our drawings to the futurist Umberto Boccioni. We finished by studying Juming and his Tai Chi series www.juming.org.tw/juming-en/index2_en.html Then children then had a tai chi session and drew poses, from that they made 3D card tai chi sculptures which were covered in modroc and painted stone colour.
