The three misconception images, one each for solid, liquid and gas, show students opinion about that state of matter. The challenge is to spot misconceptions and explain why they are wrong. A worksheet goes with each image. Odd one out image is for a more able class and encourages deeper thinking about the particle model.

This is a resource about breeding fictitious creatures known as the "Horny Legged Beasts". The creatures are a little tounge in cheek but the work is challenging. A simple card game to consolidate the idea of electronic structure in a fun way. Using just a wipeable marker pen and a die students compete to complete electronic structures of the first twenty elements. Good to use as a plenary or as a revision activity.

This is a fun and simple board game for 3 or 4 players about digestion. The game focuses on the function of the various organs of the digestive system. The idea of the game is for the players to cover various hexagons on the playing board with their playing pieces. The hexagons on the board are descriptions of various organs of the digestive system and the playing pieces are the organs. The idea is to form as long a line of their playing pieces as possible. Due to random selection of playing pieces at the start, students may not have all organs and will have repeats of some organs. The nature of the game requires the students to constantly read the descriptions to match their tiles and introduces strategy - students love blocking each other! Can be used after a lesson on roles of the various organs of the digestive system. Also works as an excellent revision resource. Meets all Exam Board standards for digestion at KS4. This is a revision resource in the form of a game. The board is a spiders web with a spider in the centre and a fly outside. The idea of the game is to escape the web and not get eaten by the spider. Game play is easy. Students roll a dice and then answer a science question. If they get it right they move clockwise the number of spots on the dice; if wrong they go anticlockwise - towards the spider! The board is available for free on my resources. This is an information poster or sheet for AS carbohydrates. It summarises monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. It is an A3 document but prints out well at A4. Can be used as a single sheet re-cap of the subject and helps with open book questions. Hope to develop a comprehension sheet to go with it.

This simple board game requires counters and a dice. Best played with four students. Rules are simple students start by rolling a dice then answer a question. If they get it wrong they move anticlockwise towards the centre of the board. If they get it right they move clockwise and can escape the web. The combination of skill and luck appeals to students and many games get heated! I have also included two sets of questions. One set for AQA B2 Topic and another for WJEC AS BY2. These can be used for as templates about 50 questions will get you through an hour. I enlarged board to A3 and laminated it.

Suitable for end of topic on photosynthesis. The main sheet can be printed out and laminated. Will work best in small groups that can discuss the answers. The sheet consists of 5 common misconceptions about photosynthesis that block understanding. The students job is to work out why the students are wrong and provide explanations. You can easily change the text boxes to represent the misconceptions you are seeing in your classes. I have also included on the publisher document a table from a meta analysis showing common photosynthesis misconceptions. Enjoy!

This simple activity involves students dropping an egg onto a hard floor from a height of 4m. This is fun and educational. The point is to model the delivery of a space rover to another planet. The raw egg is the rover and the students are given some everyday objects to protect the egg. The students score points on weather the egg survives, weight of the delivery system, how is easy it is to get egg out and budjet. All shown on power point. Students as a class should decide on how to score in the different catagories in order to decide a winner.

This is the story of the Black Robin at one stage the worlds most endangered bird. This is how conservationists saved it but nearly doomed it in the process. A story of genetics, inbreeding and adaption. The resourse consists of a power point explaining the story. I have also provided this as a publisher file if you wish students to extract the information themselves. Two work sheets are provided both working from real scientific data. One on adaption the other on genetics with monohybrid crosses.

This game is designed to practise calculation of molecular masses. Each player has a different colour pen. A card is drawn on which a molecule is printed. The players calculate the molecular mass as quickly as possible. When they think they have the answer they look for it on the board and cross it off. First one scores, hence different colour pens! Winner has most of their colour on the board. Best carried out with all players being of similar level of ability in order to prevent one player dominating the board.

This is a resource to get students thinking about linking learning. On the sheet are various methods of generating electricity: Solar, fossil fuels, wind, wave, biomass and hydroelectric. The challenge is to develop flow diagrams to show how the energy in all of these were all derived from the sun. To do this the students must be able to link, food chains, water cycle, and electrical generation. As an extension activity students need to think which methods of electricity generation cannot be linked back to the sun. Provided is a teachers guide with samples of students work with advice on levels. These levels refer to the Welsh standards but should be broadly applicable to the rest of the UK.
