Body language activities based on the story ‘Harrison Spader, Personal Space Invader’ by Christianne Jones (online readaloud linked). I used this story and resource with a child who was giving over-exhuberant hugs to his peers and teachers, without reading the body language of others. This story and the illustrations made sense to him and he enjoyed discussing the body language shown.

13 picture cards for children to sort into ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ body language. This brought up lots of discussion from my pupils about facial expression, subtle leans away from an unwanted hug and rigid postures.

A set of 30 matching pairs emotions cards as a PPT and PDF download (3 A4 pages in total). I used this resource as a ‘Kim’s Game’, each pupil choosing 2 cards and deciding whether they are a matching pair. The pairs are together horizontally as they are printed, but there may be more than one suitable pair arising from discussion with children. Great for emotional literacy sessions.

Venus Fly Trap information for guided reading or non-fiction plant project. I used this with my class for research purposes, before we created a pop-up non-fiction book. The children were so inspired that some even made their own pop up book at home! Link below to a tutorial on how to make a pop up book: https://www.youtube.com/embed/7-oRJ6MsQDc?si=OOBbxzchGeCa4dG
