Reading for Pleasure Tracker

Prioritising your own reading for pleasure may seem like the last thing on your to-do list, but did you know that reading for as little as 6 minutes a day can reduce stress levels by a whopping 68% (Lewis, 2009) As educators, we need that kind of stress-relief in our lives! These trackers are a great way to help keep you accountable to your own reading targets. Each month includes as many items to colour as days of the month. They deliberately do not have any targets set on them because only you will know what is achievable and sensible for you. As well as being a great resource for you, you can also use them with your students to help foster a love of reading. Here are some ideas to get you started: A set amount of minutes per day, e.g 6 minutes An amount of pages, e.g 10 pages a day A chapter a day Assigning a colour for how you felt each time you read Don’t forget, reading for pleasure encompasses more than books! It also includes other formats such as audio books and graphic novels. You can colour, doodle or fill the sheets however you choose. These are not intended to be an additional chore to add on to your to-do list, but a fun way to unwind and celebrate your love of reading. Let’s kick-start your reading for pleasure habit! Use these trackers personally, or to help your students in class to monitor and celebrate their reading targets. Super flexible and easy to use.

Showcase your students’ reading journey with this easy to use display pack. Two ways to use! As part of a computing lesson- to practise filling, moving, cropping and layering shapes in MSPowerpoint. Simply ask students to open a copy of the powerpoint, then on a new slide ask them to insert an image of a background, then draw a river on top. They can then add their boats and fill the shapes with downloaded images of their favourite books. You can further this task by asking students to add text boxes with information about why each book is important to them, or just add information about the book mentioned. As a class display to showcase the books shared and studied through the academic year. Start by creating a river out of fabric or paper on your display board, print and cut the lettering, and download images of the books to fill the boats with.

These printable growth mindset certificates celebrate student progress across all fields- personal, academic and attainment. Use to celebrate small steps towards a bigger goal. I’ve used these for years in place of traditional star of the week certificates that tend to focus mainly on attainment. Widely liked by parents and students, using these has reduced celebration assembly anxieties and improved behaviour. These are brilliant for end of year, end of term and weekly recognition. With older students, you can encourage reflection and ask them to consider what it is they’ve done that shows they’ve grown. Top tip- print 2 to a page to save on ink and paper! What’s included: 10 different coloured growth mindset certificates to celebrate personal growth Like these, but want a quicker way to acknowledge student growth?
