Includes a powerpoint with objectives based upon including a variety of vocabulary in creative writing. Presents students with images and sounds to interest them and provoke discussion into using a range of words to describe what they can see. Students should then start to create a short descriptive piece based upon a stormy image. Opportunity to work in pairs and groups. Students will then use an extract from a student’s piece of writing and fill in the gaps with vocabulary choices. They have the opportunity to grade the work. Finally they can peer assess each others writing and set targets to improve. Links to the GCSE English Language Paper 1 Creative Writing section.

A series of lessons showing students how to compare two poems from the POWER and CONFLICT anthology for AQA English Literature. The presentation gives a series of ideas to explore the context of the poems. The poems are included on the presentation in unannotated form and also with annotations. Students are shown in stages how to construct a comparison based on the idea of the experiences of people in both poems. A marking grid is included for students to peer mark and construct a DIRT response. Finally - a sample essay is included to A* standard.
