EYFS Observations: Examples of high quality observations in the Early Years
A Powerpoint presentation and separate PDF handout notes that explore how to take high quality observations in the Early Years. Useful for staff training or INSET sessions, particularly for teachers new to EYFS or Early Years Practitioners that could benefit from extra guidance.
The presentation details what makes a good quality observation and how observations can reliably inform assessment and provision.
Real examples of EYFS observations from Learning Journals are included with photographic evidence. These observations are then analysed - what makes them good observations? How could they be improved?
EYFS Writing Checklist
A simple writing checklist for the Early Years featuring symbols to support understanding.

One more, one less posters: Number displays to 10.
Each poster is on its own A4 page and features a representation of the number in three different ways - on fingers, as Numicon number shapes and as objects - as well as 1 more and 1 less than that number displayed in the same way. There is also a blank poster for children to complete themselves in continuous provision or as a home learning task.
Phonics Intervention Pack - Phase 2 Planning and Resources (EYFS)
A complete planning and resource pack for Phonics intervention group activities - Phase 2 (Letters and Sounds).
The planning format is fully editable and features over 20 separate sessions of group activities, covering Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. There is also space for writing dates and teacher comments on the planning format.
The pack includes both planning and resources, and as such is ‘ready to go’ - the entire pack can be printed out and handed to your teachers/TAs for a full term of intervention groups or focus group activities.

Emotions and Facial Expressions - Build a face!
A selection of photographs featuring eyes and mouths in different expressions (happy, angry, scared, sad etc.), and a full page face template for sticking them on.
We have found this really useful for teaching children about emotions and when encouraging them to speak about how they are feeling.
They can either be used independently as a cutting/sticking activity for children, or laminated and provided within continuous provision to encourage children to show you how they are feeling when they are struggling to articulate it.
Baseline Phonics Assessment - Individual recording sheet and flashcards
An individual recording sheet for baseline phonic assessments. Assesses single sound recognition (a-z), oral blending, CVC word and tricky word reading (Phase 2). Ideally repeated half-termly or termly to show progression. Can also support allocating children to streaming groups for differentiated teaching.
Flashcards of the words and sounds within the assessment are also included.

Part-Whole Maths Worksheets - White Rose inspired - Reception
A selection of 8 different worksheets, designed to consolidate children’s understanding of partitioning and adding numbers, using the part-whole models as recommended by White Rose Maths.
4 worksheets focus on splitting the wholes into parts;
4 worksheets focus on adding parts to find the whole.
The worksheets use numerals, Numicon shapes, dot patterns and cubes to support children to use a range of resources.
Supports adding and partitioning numbers to 10.
EYFS Maths Planning - White Rose/Numberblocks based - 12 weeks
12 weeks of Maths planning for the Autumn Term in Reception. The plans are based on White Rose and Numberblocks approaches and are fully editable, featuring assessment points from Development Matters and continuous provision opportunities.
We focus mainly on number recognition to 10 in the Autumn term, as well as comparing length and introducing 2D shapes.
The planning features 60 separate Maths sessions, and as such can easily be continued into the Spring term for settings that prefer a different pace or who may choose to repeat sessions for further consolidation.

CVC Words - List and Cards (Phase 2)
This pack features a CVC word list for Letters and Sounds Phase 2, as well as two files of corresponding word cards - one set with sound buttons (dots and dashes) underneath letters, and one set without.
The words are organised into Letters and Sounds sets 1-5:

EYFS Observations 'Cheat Sheet' - Examples of evidence in each area of learning
A ‘cheat sheet’ grid for EYFS practitioners that provides examples of activities for each of the 17 areas of learning within Development Matters. Designed in line with the EYFS exemplification materials, this has proved invaluable within my Reception class. Useful to display on a classroom wall for easy referral for all adults looking to capture evidence for a specific area of learning. Also covers the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
How many children can play here? Visual number display posters
A set of 10 posters to display how many children can play in each area, from 1-10.
Each poster has a photograph featuring the corresponding number of children, to support early number recognition development.
CVC Word Trails - Blending activity for reading intervention (Phase 2)
A selection of 20 different word cards, designed to support early reading of Phase 2 CVC words. Letters are laid along a ‘trail’, with the full word blended together at the end.
We have found these incredibly useful as a phonics intervention activity. We encourage children to use their finger to trace the trail and blend the sounds together as they are reading.
They are also great laminated for display, or as a reading activity that children can access independently in the book corner.
Words included: tap, sit, pan, pig, mop, cat, map, cot, pen, mug, bag, hat, dog, fox, ten, jam, log, red, van, fish.
Photo Caption Cards - Phase 2
A selection of 20 different photograph cards and matching captions, featuring CVC words from Phase 2 (Letters and Sounds).
We have found these really useful for a range of phonic activities - you can separate the captions from the photos and ask children to match them together. We also use them in phonics lessons, on displays, or have them available in the reading corner for children to access independently.
