A ready to use lesson (from KS3 upwards) to meet the PSHE/SRE Statutory Curriculum. Editable Powerpoint with 60 minutes worth of material. Learning Intentions:  I can identify key facts about abortion and the law  I can differentiate between pro-life and pro-choice arguments  I can write advise and offer solutions to a problem-based scenario The lesson allows students to discuss the controversial issue of abortion in a controlled and mature manner. The lesson begins with a silent debate whereby students have to vote on different scenarios regarding autonomy before the topic of abortion is introduced. For example ‘women should be allowed to vote, drive, drink alcohol’ Students are then given information regarding the procedure of abortion and are introduced to Pro-Choice and Por-Life arguments, which they have to sort and then are challenged to directly match up to teach how to counter arguments. Students are also tasked with a writing to advise task whereby they have to apply correctly their knowledge to offer advice and solutions through a problem-based scenario. To be used as a starting point for students before delving into specific rights and legislation necessary for the GCSE Specifications. This Bundle includes two lessons which aim to meet the requirements of teaching about the press and media as part of Theme D, on the Edexcel specification. In response to the 2022 GCSE Edexcel paper, upon which many candidates struggled to explain the role of a press regulator, this series serves to bridge these gaps in learning. The first lesson challenges students to debate and think critically about the role of the press and the pros and cons of censorship in modern society, with respect to freedom of expression and balancing rights. The second lesson allows students to explore the role of the press regulators and the extent to which they support/restrict press freedom in the UK. Students learn about each press regulator and the capacity in which they regulate the press and how well they balance the rights of their members with an individuals’ right to privacy. The lesson teaches itself and is very adaptable and easy to use, particularly for ECT and Non-specialists. Students are finally tasked with selecting a human right to research to create an informative, yet structured poster, detailing what the right means in practical everyday life for citizens.
