French Numbers to 100 Games

(0)
KS2 / KS3 French Numbers to 100 (Les Nombres) printable speaking games: 5 loop games - a differentiated set of three 30-card loop games/follow me/domino cards for French mental maths and two 30-card sets for simple French number matching.   My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in: Upper Primary (Key Stage 2 KS2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6) Secondary (Key Stage 3 KS3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8) Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada May suit others, depending on experience   PDF format. FRENCH MENTAL MATHS SETS: Combine mental maths agility with French number learning in this fun activity. The three sets cater for different ages, abilities and experiences of French. Giving children the chance to use French numbers (Les Nombres / Les Numeros ) in calculations can build understanding, recall and confidence in using them. Includes: one 30-card set focusing on numbers to 40 one 30-card set focusing on numbers to 60 one 30 card set focusing on numbers to 100 There is no particular starting card as each loop is continuous but all sets do have ‘un’ (one) in them and you might want to start them here. Each set has a different coloured border but if not printing in colour you might want to print on different coloured card or paper so as not to mix them up when using more than one set. SIMPLE NUMBER MATCHING SETS: Again, you can start at any point in the loops. There’s one 30-card set for 0-40 and another for 0-100. Whether in whole class activities or group work, I hope your pupils enjoy using these. If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks. You can buy this resource as part of a bundle with my other French number resources, which you can investigate below. Addition and Subtraction by 9 and 11

(0)
Key Stage 1 (KS1) Year 1 and Year 2 (Y1 / Y2) add and subtract 9 and 11 (and 10) printable mental maths activities. Use in Maths / Numeracy lessons for independent work, starters, warm ups, early finishers tasks, revision etc. There are 36 self-check write and wipe trail cards to be laminated for pupils to complete with wipeable pens. Ideal for fun consolidation once you have taught the related strategies of adding 10, then adding 1 / adding 10, then subtracting 1 etc. Will suit some Year 3 (Y3) and older learners in KS2 for consolidation. In Scotland, use for First Level Maths, Primary 2 and 3, or Primary 4 and above needing consolidation.   WRITE AND WIPE TRAILS Each card contains 14 mental maths calculations - over 500 calculations across the whole set. ALL ANSWERS INCLUDED. Differentiation: The first 18 cards involve 2 digit numbers, while more able or older pupils could use cards 19-36, which involve 3-digit numbers (and bridging through hundreds in some). For further differentiation, allow number lines / number squares where appropriate. They can be used by individuals or you could have pairs or small groups racing against each other to complete trails accurately. It promotes speed and accuracy and is a more engaging alternative to worksheets. Starting at the bee and working their way around the card in a spiral, children write the answer to each calculation in the box, creating a running total. The final answer is printed next to the flower in the middle of the card so they can see if they have correctly completed it. If not, children can check to see where they have gone wrong. Answer cards can be used by the pupils themselves or by the teacher to see at a glance where pupils have gone wrong. Print and laminate if required. I hope your pupils enjoy using these. If you can leave me a review I would be very grateful.   I have other versions of this resource, to practise different aspects of adding and subtracting. They are available with this one in a great value bundle: Adding and Subtracting within 20 Write and Wipe Cards Add and Subtract within 50 Write and Wipe Cards Add and Subtract Multiples of 10 Write and Wipe Cards Add and Subtract Activities Trails BUNDLE You might also like these: Basic Addition and Subtraction Fluency Puzzles Worksheets   For engaging, time-saving printables and presentations to help plan Primary Literacy, Maths and French lessons, visit FullShelf Resources

Money Games Change from Ten Pounds

(1)
Money Games (Calculating Change from Ten Pounds): differentiated, illustrated four-in-a-row boards, each featuring 36 prices in UK currency (sterling) for finding change from £10, plus a 20-card loop card / dominoes set. Printable fun for starters, early finishers activities, revision etc. FOUR IN A ROW A fun, strategic activity for consolidating this key money / financial / shopping skill. Ideal for maths lessons or Money Week skills practice. Originally designed for Key Stage 2 (KS2), Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 (Y3 / Y4 / Y5 and Y6), depending on ability. In Scotland, it’s for Primary 4, 5, 6 and 7. Includes: 2 PDF files 2 standard game boards (featuring different items and prices from each other) 2 lower ability boards (same as above but less challenging calculations) Answer grids for at-a-glance checking by pupils or teacher Teacher notes Laminate and use again and again. Children work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get 4 correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. It works especially well if they roll a dice to find which column they must pick a calculation from (columns numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in a column, skip a go or roll again. Imagining that they pay for each item with £10, pupils use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record on the board the change due for each of their transactions or add an initial or symbol if both teams are using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but A4 is okay too. The LA versions have a star next to the title. Print on different coloured card or paper if required. LOOP GAME / FOLLOW ME CARDS / DOMINOES A 20-card set that can start with any card. A child reads the ‘I spend’ part first as they make their ‘purchase’ with others working out if they have the relevant ‘I give you’. Use as a game for groups or as a whole class starter or plenary (in pairs if necessary). LA pupils could be given less challenging cards so they can still experience success. I have packs for calculating change from £1, £5 and £20, available with this pack in a bundle: Change Games Bundle Other popular KS2 Maths resources: Mental Maths Bundle Multiplication / Division Bundle Angles / Symmetry Activities Bundle Thank you. PE Active Maths and Fitness Game KS2

(0)
PE, Numeracy and communication skills mix in this fun active relay fitness game for Primary (Key Stage 2, especially Year 4, 5 and 6). Great for outdoor learning or special events such as National Maths Week, to have children practising mental calculations in another curriculum area. Alternatively, use this activity as a warm up to add variety to your normal Physical Education programme. Good teamwork and communication should be encouraged as teammates help each other to work out the calculations and guide each other to the possible answer cards, while navigating around the hidden Exercise Cards (which force the team to divert onto a variety of athletic challenges!). 4 files are included: large versions of game boards and cards in PDF, small versions, plus editable exercise card files (both sizes - in PPT), in case you wish to add some of your own exercise ideas. Print and laminate the boards and cards you require. No equipment is necessary and the game can be played in a gym hall or outside space. Answer key included. INSTRUCTIONS (Also included within the file): Split students into up to 7 groups, giving each a calculation board. Shuffle the number cards and as many exercise cards (12 included) as you wish, spreading them out face down at the other end of the playing area. You may wish to remove the answer cards for any board not in use. Teams send one person at a time running to collect a card. On each go, students must only turn over one card. If they know it is not an answer to any calculations on their board, they replace it, or else they can bring it back to their team to check and the next team member can replace it if it is not required, before collecting another card. If a player turns over an Exercise Card, they must bring it back to their group and the whole team must perform the stipulated exercises. When all members are finished the exercise, the next runner can set off for another card. The winners are the first team to cover all their calculations with the correct answer cards. There are two of each number card, as each answer features on two boards, helping to ensure a faster game. To speed up the game or to add an extra element, include as many Pass Cards as you like. If children turn over a Pass Card they can place it over any calculation they want, for instance if they are finding a calculation too difficult or if there is an answer card they are struggling to find. For differentiation, use mixed ability groups or else grant certain groups extra pass cards to cover more challenging calculations. To ensure a smooth game, circulate with the answer key for at-a-glance checking. If groups have accidentally taken another group’s answer card, ensure they quickly replace it so as not to hamper the progress of other teams. Thank you for your interest.

Mental Maths Tests Year 5 / 6

(1)
Ideal starter mental maths tests or quizzes. NO PREP! This pack contains 15 Mental Arithmetic PowerPoint Speed Tests, originally designed for Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) - Y5 and Y6 (Primary 6 and 7 and other equivalents) but might also suit some early KS3 classes for revision and consolidation. They could be used as part of SATs preparation too. UPDATE: Now included in PDF versions as well as the original PowerPoints. Money calculations are in UK Pounds, but dollar versions of all resources are also included. Students enjoy trying to beat their previous best score. These informal tests are split across 3 files and are designed to be shown on the whiteboard, with children recording answers in jotters or on paper. In each quiz there’s one question to a slide so children can focus on it for a few seconds before the next one comes up. The question slides are plain and uncluttered to minimise distractions. You can run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer if you wish - alternatively click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions. Each test features 20 calculations involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge. Alternatively, use the PDF versions. At the end of each test, there follows the same 20 slides repeated, with the answer added clearly. Students can mark their own or a partner’s work to cut down on your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but each answer appearing with its question like this allows for important discussions about strategies. Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Negative Numbers, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Decimals, Percentages, Fractions, Money, Measure (including Area and Perimeter, Time, Length), Angles. The PowerPoint files are editable should you wish to amend any wording or change the odd question to better suit your class. Differentiation: I’ve called this Set A rather than used any other identifier to help facilitate the use of my Set B (originally designed for Lower Key Stage 2) with lower ability children within the same class without children being aware of the age level of the questions. Key Stage 2 Year 5 and Year 6 Fractions Games and Puzzles: Printable, differentiated Maths Four in a Row Games, Puzzles Worksheets and an Active Card Game to help plan fun lesson starters, main tasks and / or early finishers activities in fractions lessons at Upper Key Stage 2 - especially Y5 and Y6 - (and some early KS3). CONTENTS: 6 Fractions Puzzles Worksheets (Equivalent Fractions, Simplifying, Fractions of Quantities / Amounts, Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions) 6 Differentiated Four in a Row Games for Fractions of Amounts 54-Card Active Game / Treasure Hunt for Fractions of Amounts If just focusing on Fractions of Amounts, you may wish to purchase the latter two resource packs in my Fractions of Amounts Games BUNDLE. If you prefer, you can also purchase the Fractions Puzzles Worksheets as part of my Fractions, Decimals and Percentages BUNDLE FRACTIONS ACTIVITIES BUNDLE - MORE INFORMATION: Answer keys included. Please check the individual resource pages and previews to see if these provide an appropriate range of challenge for your students. PUZZLES WORKSHEETS An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs or groups. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing the work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a fraction / calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing incorrect answers or errors such as non-equivalent fractions (depending on which puzzle it is). Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal a maths word. There’s a further question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the word. Students often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves. FOUR IN A ROW Print and laminate the boards for regular use. It was designed in A3 to work especially well with larger groups but you can scale down to print in A4 if required or preferred. There are 6 game boards, two for each level of challenge, indicated with a star system, with one star being the least challenging. The one-star version includes only unit fractions of small numbers. The two-star version includes fractions of larger two-digit numbers, while the three-star version progresses to fractions of three and four-digit numbers. Students work strategically as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a dice each time to decide from which column to pick a calculation (the columns are numbered 1-6). Students write their answers on the board with a dry-wipe marker. TREASURE HUNT / ACTIVE CARD GAME This can be played multiple times as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of fractions calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Thanks for supporting my resources. Factors and Multiples Y5 Y6

(2)
Fun Upper Primary Maths games and activities for Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 5 and 6 - or Primary 6 and 7 in Scotland. Factors and Multiples starters, warm ups, early finishers tasks, revision etc. A differentiated set of over 70 cards to be used for self-checking factors work or for fun games, plus 6 game boards and 36 cards for multiples bingo / lotto. FACTORS: Lower ability file features numbers up to 100. Higher ability file includes many more challenging numbers, up to 16,000. The cards are designed to be printed double-sided with the answers (all factors of the number) on the back. Once you have printed the front side, pop your paper or card back in the printer and print the answers. This works especially well as an early finisher activity. Pupil Instruction Card is included for ‘Factors Frenzy’ game, where children compete to find as many factors of a number as they can. It could get quite competitive! MULTIPLES: 6 bingo boards, each featuring 6 numbers between 2 and 12. Print and laminate these as well as the 36 number cards (which each feature four numbers). When picking up a card, players must decide if the four numbers on their card are ALL multiples of a single number on their board. If so, they can place it over that number. If not, they put it back. There’s tactical thinking in this game as some children will realise that all multiples of i.e. 12 are also multiples of 6, 4, 3, 2 - so they will need to prioritise covering the numbers for which there are fewer cards. A couple of cards will not be able to be placed on anyone’s board as there is no common multiple. As usual, the first to cover all numbers is the winner. A Pupil Instruction Card is included for this game too. It comes in both colour and black and white. These are available for a saving in a bundle (see below). I hope your pupils enjoy using them and that they save you time. Dividing with Multiples of 10, 100, 1000

(0)
A Maths starter game for KS2 Year 5 / Year 6 Division with multiples of 10, 100, 1000 Numeracy. This is a treasure hunt / scavenger hunt activity, an active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary in Year 5 / Year 6 and early KS3. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions. I have a collection of these Grab the Answers games, each one focusing on a different maths concepts. Click on the BUNDLE to explore more. Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards. Please visit my store for many fun, time-saving maths activities: FullShelf Resources

Rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, whole number, 1 decimal place, 2 decimal places and rounding to the nearest pound. These PDF format Maths / Numeracy activities are ideal for early finishers, starters / warm ups, and homework too. Use for revision and consolidation, as part of a place value unit, or for meaningful fun at other times. An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these Hidden Word puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. All solutions provided. If you wish, laminate for repeated use and write on them with whiteboard pens. In Scotland, it's ideal for Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7. Contains 7 and their solutions: rounding 2-digit numbers to the nearest ten, 3-digit numbers to the nearest hundred, 4-digit numbers to the nearest thousand and various size decimal numbers to the nearest whole number, 1 decimal place and 2 decimal places. Puzzle 7 comes in two versions - rounding to the nearest pound / rounding to the nearest dollar. These puzzles are similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after the rounding work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a number to be rounded and a letter. Once students have rounded all the numbers, they cross out any boxes containing numbers that round to certain specified target numbers (whether it is to the nearest 10, 1 decimal place etc). Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. If the word is more simple, the letters are in random order for students to reassemble. If it is a trickier word (such as a famous mathematician), the letters are already placed in the correct order in the grid. There is a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the hidden word. The range of puzzles in this resource is ideal for differentiation and revision and / or to cater for a range of groups and classes. Negative Numbers

Activities (a game, puzzles worksheets and word problem cards) for differentiated negative numbers lessons at Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2). It was originally designed for Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) and equivalents but could work for able Year 4 too. Includes 3 fun Hidden Word / Spot the Mistake Puzzles (and solutions), a 30-card Loop Game / Dominoes Set and 16 Word Problems Cards (8 multi-step and 8 more simple). PDF format. In Scotland, use for Primary 6 and 7 (and able Primary 5). PUZZLES An engaging alternative to worksheets, these Numeracy puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher or homework activities. There’s one on increasing and decreasing temperature (Celsius), one for simple subtraction calculations with mostly negative number answers and a more challenging puzzle featuring addition and subtraction of negative and positive integers. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a calculation and a letter. Students circle boxes containing errors. Then they assemble the letters from the circled boxes to reveal a maths word. There’s a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the word. Pupils often forget or avoid checking their work so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work. LOOP CARDS / DOMINOES Fun group / whole class activity to consolidate adding and subtracting negative numbers, using phrases (‘reduce by’, ‘increase’, ‘difference between’ etc). Forms a continuous loop. WORD PROBLEM CARDS 8 Multi-Step Word Problem Cards and 8 more simple. Solutions can be printed back to back with question side for student self-checking or can be printed and made into separate cards if required. Consolidates understanding of negative numbers in the contexts of temperature (degrees Celsius), money / bank accounts and points in a sporting league. Work well as early finisher challenges. Separate pounds and dollars versions. Area Game KS2

KS2 area maths bingo / lotto activities for revision of finding area of squares, rectangles and right-angled triangles: 10 game boards and 60 cards are included in this differentiated pack, originally designed for an upper Key Stage 2 class (Year 5 and Year 6 - Y5 / Y6). There are 5 boards and 30 cards in two sets. ALL ANSWERS AND INSTRUCTION PAGE INCLUDED. Each child or pair has a board with 6 area answers on it. The cards feature 2D shapes with lengths and breadths marked on, which the children use to work out the area. Children have a board each or per pair. I recommend having one area shape card turned over at a time and all players working out if it matches the area answer on their board. Could be used as a fun starter, revision, early finisher activity etc. BLACK AND WHITE versions of the cards also included. PDF format. In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7. Differentiation: The one-star version has more simple calculations to work out in centimetres. The two-star version has more challenging calculations and includes some conversion between centimetres and metres. Calculations can be done mentally or with a little working out on a mini whiteboard or scrap of paper. Answer cards are included for pupil self-checking or to help teachers assess. The cards can also be used separately from the bingo game, with individuals or pairs working out the area and checking. They could perhaps time themselves to see how many they can correctly answer in 5 or 10 minutes. Or small groups could compete against each other to get the answer first, scoring a point if they manage it. If you don’t need to use both versions of the bingo / lotto game at the same time, I recommend printing the boards back to back to save on card and laminating pouches. If using both sets of cards, I suggest printing them on different coloured card to help keep them separate. Area Games Year 5 / 6

Key Stage 2 (KS2) area printable activities - fun, strategic games of Four in a Row for consolidation and revision of area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound / composite shapes. Differentiated 3 ways. Originally designed for Y5 and Y6 but it might suit some older groups (KS3) too. In Scotland, use for Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7. The boards were originally designed to be printed in A3 and I recommend this so that children have sufficient space to record the area of each 2D shape. Taking turns to go, children use a different coloured whiteboard pen to write the area of a shape in the appropriate box on the grid. If using the same colour as their opponent, they could add their initial to the box. When someone achieves 4 in a row, answers could be checked using the ANSWER GRIDS, or by using a calculator. 1-star version - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. No conversion required. 2-star - area of rectangles, squares and right-angled triangles. More challenging calculations. Some conversion required between centimetres, metres etc. Includes decimal lengths and breadths. 3-star - area of rectangles, squares, right-angled triangles and compound / composite shapes. Some conversion required. Includes decimal lengths and breadths and more challenging calculations. Some of the compound shapes require children to work out the length of a side, using other given sides, before they can work out the area. Children will be able to do some of the calculations mentally but could work out more challenging ones before writing in the answer on the grid.
