A complete lesson about ghosts in the novel to help lead students towards creating a grade 9 response to a GCSE style question on the theme of ghosts in A Christmas Carol using a 9 step process. Simple but effective revision lesson. Starter: Ask students to try and remember quotations for the main characters using the A4 worksheet. 10 Romeo, 10 Juliet, 5 Capulet, 5 Tybalt, 5 Friar, 5 Mercutio. Main: Give out the list of the 40 best quotations on the A3 sheet and ask students to analyse the quotations. Review: Go through answers which appear on the PowerPoint one by one on each mouse click. There is also a worksheet with more detailed answers on.

Use for a final revision session or series of sessions on A Christmas Carol Present the students with 6 big ideas about the novel. Students use the attached top 50 quotations sheet to help add their ideas about each big idea. I have also included a top 100 quotation version for higher ability students. Then go through possible answers on the PowerPoint. The PowerPoint is animated and each answer appears on the mouse click so you can talk through each one as it appears. I have also included 6 predictions about what extract might come up. Now we are 3 years into the 9-1 syllabus, I predict they might use a more obscure extract so I have picked 6 less obvious extracts. Students read each extract and complete the planning grid. A lesson aimed at preparing students on how Shakespeare presents Macbeth’s and Banquo’s attitudes to the supernatural. It includes an exam question and a grade 9 model answer.
