How to Turn Mixed Numbers into Improper Fractions

(0)
Shhh! Converting mixed numbers to fractions is simpler than you thought! Take a peek inside this fractions resource… This resource contains: A cheatsheet poster on how to turn mixed numbers into improper fractions A scaffolded worksheet which breaks down each step and gets students to show their working A worksheet for practising the quick method of converting to improper fractions Answer keys for each worksheet Colour and grayscale versions I’ve found that a lot of students I’ve taught started Fractions units feeling quite daunted and low in confidence. At first, fractions can seem a bit tricky to grasp but I think the best thing is that once students ‘click’ and realise that there are methods they can use to answer types of questions, the whole topic is suddenly demystified. I made this cheat sheet as a reference sheet to show how mixed numbers and improper fractions relate and then show the step-by-step process for converting to improper fractions. I’ve included a few definitions and key mathematical knowledge that students will need to complete the included practice activities. If you’re after some more practice worksheets on converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, here are a couple more. Happy teaching & learning! See Think Feel Wonder Pictures & Editable Google Slides: Climate Change

See Think Feel Wonder Pictures & Editable Google Slides: Climate Change

(0)
Ready-to-go editable slides for your students to See Think Feel & Wonder about the topic of Climate Change! The prep is all done for you - simply assign the Google Slides to your students on Google Classroom and your students will be all set to go with thought-provoking picture prompts and tables to record their responses. Easy! If you’re looking for an engaging way to introduce a new topic to your students, ‘See Think Feel Wonder’ is the way to go! It’s a way to spark discussions and unearth students’ prior knowledge and perceptions. The aim is to encourage students to dig deeper than just surface-level observations and GET CURIOUS about the world around them. The pictures in this resource include: Transport, deforestation, farming, bush fires, glacier melting, factory pollution and protest for climate change. Photo credit to the following Pixabay artists (in order of pictures): makabera, MariaGullestrup, NickyPe, rauschenberger, shivaphotographyy, Picography, stevePB (2), Manubird, cubicroot How I recommend using these Google Slides: Complete the Bus Stop activity outlined in the printable version with students either just discussing their ideas or recording their responses on post-it notes. Show students the Google Slides and model how to fill in the ‘See Think Feel Wonder’ charts, ensuring that you are specific about your personal expectations of length/quality of responses. Make the slides available for students to complete independently through the ‘Create an Assignment’ function on Google Classroom (explained below). Look at the assignments once they have been submitted by your students and use this information to identify prior knowledge, misconceptions and possible areas to explore further in following lessons. If you haven’t used the ‘Create an Assignment’ function in Google Classroom before, you can check out instructions on Google support. There are also a bunch of videos out there you can watch on Youtube if that’s easier for you! The most important thing is that when you first create the assignment, you select ‘Make a copy for each student’. This means that your students will all get their own copy of the slides with their name added to the document title. You and the student will be able to edit their copy of the document and, importantly, your students will not be able to edit your original copy of the slides (yes, I have made this mistake before!). Please note: When you purchase this resource, you will download a PDF which gives you access to the Editable Google Slides. After clicking the link, you will be prompted to ‘Make a Copy’ of the resource which will automatically save to your personal Google Drive. Please ensure that you are signed into your Google account to enable this. Enjoy! Be purposeful teachers Who are in control Feel inspired And know they’ve done enough. @atm.teaching

Colouring In Pages | Travel Inspired | Original Hand Drawn Pictures | Burano, Venice

Who doesn’t love a bit of colouring in?! This resource contains 7 original hand drawn houses inspired by the colourful houses on the island of Burano. If you’re after a wall display for your classroom, you can get your students to cut out their houses and then stick them up in a row to make a piece of collective artwork - teamwork makes the dream work, right?! I instantly fell in love with the island of Burano on my whistle-stop trip there last year. I loved how despite being a seemingly random array of colours and a little wonky, everything just looked so in place. Perfectly imperfect. I’m super excited to create more classroom resources inspired by my travels! Here’s what I’ve created so far - hope you find something that takes your fancy! Number Wall Display | Travel Inspired Classroom Decor | Venice | Bright Pastels

Count to 20 in style with this number wall display inspired by Burano, Venice! This is the perfect addition to your primary school classroom, giving you a taste of travel and creating a colourful display that students will love too! This resource contains 3 sets of numbers 1-20, designed to be cut out, laminated and displayed. The first set were hand drawn by me - hope you like them! Just in case you’re after less ‘busy’ displays, I’ve also created a couple of simplified versions so you can still get your splash of colour without the extras! There are 2 numbers per A4 page (each letter is approx. A5 size). My inspiration for this classroom display came from my whistle-stop trip to Burano, one of the islands north west of Venice. I instantly fell in love with the bright colours and how everything seemed so ‘in place’ despite the seemingly random placement of colours. Using my photos as the starting point, I came up with several colour schemes and sketched different housing designs to import into and edit on Illustrator. The colour scheme of this resource is bright pastels! I’m going to continue designing classroom decor products inspired by my travels so keep your eyes peeled! Enjoy!
